SaltwaterShoup
Last week I put a bubble tip anemone in my 28g jbj setup. He wandered around for a couple hours but seemed to find a spot he liked. Today I found him holding tight to a wall in the back compartment of my nano cube... Is it better to force it out now or wait until it finds it's way back out? I know they can release some pretty nasty stuff into the water if they die Thanks for the help Link to comment
Hammerstone
Can you reach it? I heard, I repeat heard, that ice cubes can be good persuaders. Link to comment
SaltwaterShoup
I can reach it but it's stuck on tight so I didn't want to force it, I'll look into the ice cube though, thanks. Link to comment
FlowerMama
If stuck to a flat surface, you may want to try credit card slid underneath or both at once. Link to comment
Clown79
You can remove it but be very careful and I also have heard credit cards are a good choice. Link to comment
FlowerMama
Or driver's license, whichever. Shimmy it a little under and see if it gives any, slowly, carefully. Link to comment
strummerfan
In case it wasn't clear use the ice cube on the anemone's foot. Link to comment
Exodus
What terrible advice! No do not try to move him, you damage it's foot and it's pretty much good as dead. If the anemone has found a place it likes let it be, if it decides it does not like and begins to move grab it then. When it comes to Anemones you DO NOT get to pick where they will reside in your tank, they will. If that's an issue I would suggest passing it on to someone who is accepting of that. Link to comment

The anemone is in the rear chambers of the AIO tank. That's not safe for the anemone - most likely it won't get light. There are safe ways to move anemones but you just have to make sure you're very careful not to damage the foot. Link to comment
markalot
I used gloves and teased the foot loose, but not sure how much room you have. My anemone was pretty big which made it easier. I scolded mine as well but it didn't seem to listen to me. Link to comment

Correct, I assume it is not getting light and it will be on the move to find a more suitable location very soon, A healthy Anemone typically isn't about to commit suicide so I'm sure it wont be long before it detaches and provides a much better opportunity to move it. But what markalot mentioned is a Far safer method if you don't have the patience. Link to comment
Mariaface
Get that thing out of there, asap. If it detaches to find another spot, the return pump at the end of the AIO filtration chambers is going to demolish it. Ice cubes are a nice coercion technique, and you can put one into a zip lock bag if you don't trust the water you make ice with. I wouldn't go at the foot with something abrasive, but like mark said you can annoy it into getting up and walking away. Just make sure you turn off the return pump while you're doing this. EDIT: Try to use the ice on the OTHER side of the wall the anemone is on, not directly on the flesh. Hold it in place until the temperature tries to 'equalize'. Link to comment
Hammerstone
One of my RFAs, a pretty big one decided it liked to mush itself against the glass facing into the tank. That sucks because I can't see its beauty unless from above or peeking on the sides. It's the place it chose. Oh well lol. But it's happy there and in no danger, it's just not the place I would have picked lol. Link to comment
lkoechle
Lots of massaging and the ice cube. When I had to sell, one of my anemones was being stubborn. It took an hour and a half massaging the dude and using an ice cube every now and then, but he eventually came off damage free. Link to comment
jcreefer
Don't laugh, I used a chopstick (what, I'm Chinese!!) and kept poking at its foot to persuade its release. Looks like I'll have to bust out the good ol chopstick again when I move the livestock to the new tank. Except the anemone has since split and now it's doubled the work!! Jeff Link to comment

Damaging the foot won't kill the anemone. I've seen them cut in two with an exacto knife and both halves lived. Don't take my word for it. Link to comment
SaltwaterShoup
Sorry to keep you guys in suspense! Had exams all last week... don't you hate when real life gets in the way of watching your tank? I was able to get the anemone free after about 20 minutes of massaging the foot with an ice cube, he's since found a spot, opened up fully, and stopped moving around. Still waiting for it to host my ocellaris, anybody have any tips on that? I tried taping a picture of a clown in an rbta with no luck... not sure what (if anything) to try next Link to comment

I have no idea but maybe try feeding as close as you can get to the nem, something that your clown really likes? Link to comment
