msparklym13
Hi Friends! I was hoping you could give me ideas re adding more rock. Looking back I had no idea how important rock would be for corals! I want to add more but was wondering what your thoughts are on adding to a somewhat established tank( 6 months solid ). I do not have a quarantine tank but the rock I purchased from LFS was amazing. I would love to build up the rock as there is a lot of space- Has anyone else had success? Thank you for your input!! Best, M Link to comment
dpoltsdsu
I've added live rock to a Home Depot bucket filled with saltwater for a couple of weeks and replace the water in it when I did water changes on the main reef tank. This lets the rock cure in the bucket, so when it is added to your tank it doesn't cause an ammonia spike. If you want to add dry rock, you shouldn't have an issue adding it straight to your tank! Clown79
You definitely want to cure it first as suggested. Some dry rock can be an issue with phosphates. Some ppl do dry rock baths prior to adding it. There is a lot of info online regarding the procedure. Link to comment
