tiggs
Quick question for those or you with inTank media baskets. What are you running in each chamber? Right now, this is how I'm setup.. Filter Floss empty Chemipure Blue In the past, I've used Purigen and Chaeto in the middle chamber before Chemipure Blue was around. A Purigen-like substance is included with CPB, so that's not an option. Also, in my experience with refugiums in chamber 2, I personally don't believe you can grow enough chaeto in such a small area to have a noticeable impact on nutrient reduction. I've considered doubling up on CPB and running it in chambers 2 and 3, but I'm not sure if that's overkill for a 14 gallon nano. I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks! Quote Link to comment

tiggs
Oh I don't blame you one bit. This will be the third time I've setup this Biocube since 2010, so I've tried pretty much every gadget that would fit in it at one point or another. Aside from lighting, the inTank media basket is the single most valuable upgrade for an all-in-one tank, IMO. Quote Link to comment
tiggs
InTank Media Basket Filter floss NOTHINGGGGGGG NOTHINGGGGGGG Don't use chemical filtration unless you have a need for it, just complicated stuff Yeah, I'm not a fan of chemical filtration either. In the past, I've had much larger tanks and only relied on a diesel ass skimmer, filter floss, and water changes. With a Biocube 14, I'm unable to fit a skimmer that's actually useful, so that's the only reason I use chemical media these days. Granted, I change 20% of my water every week to keep things in order, but the Chemipure Blue has helped keep things stable so far. It was actually a rough transition for me, because I was one of those "you MUST have a skimmer on a reef no matter what!" people in the past. I preached that train of thought for years, so it took a bit to get used to running a skimmer-less setup. lol Quote Link to comment
Pjanssen
biocube29 filter floss carbon/GFO chaeto I'll admit that I've been questioning the effectiveness of the chaeto, but I don't think that it's hurting anything so at this point I'm keeping it. I find my algae to be better managed with carbon/GFO than the chemipure blue or elite that I have used in the past, and much cheaper. next to the media rack in the second chamber is a pump and return hose for my chiller Quote Link to comment
Balix
I run just chemipure elite and some phosphate pads which sometimes I'll rotate with phosguard. Purigen never did much for me, tried them on both of my tanks. Skimmer is a must have for me so far. Quote Link to comment

I am trying to deal with some cloudy water so I was going to run Carbon in a bag. Besides that I only use a filter sock and a big ass skimmer in my sump. Quote Link to comment

NYfishies
Nope. Shouldn't be cloudy unless there's a problem? I believe it has occurred due to imbalance between PO4/NO3/C. Seems like an outbreak of bacteria. Sort of like when you have a new system cycling. Quote Link to comment

ReefWeeds
In my biocube 29, I ran floss, purigen, chemipure elite. For the last two months before I retired the cube, I ran two layers of floss and ran carbon in a minimax desktop reactor. Since I had quite a few leathers/softies, I needed to run carbon pretty consistently. Quote Link to comment

tsouth
Bags: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-mesh-filter-sock-with-draw-string.html Those are what you put the gfo and carbon in. When rinsing gfo and carbon, use ro/di or distilled water or else it will absorb all the shit from tap. Just follow the instructions on the package. Put carbon in one filter sock, gfo in the other. Rinse both and then put them in your filter compartments. Purigen follows the same steps as above, unless it comes pre-bagged (chemipure blue comes pre bagged) Quote Link to comment
