Dank
My 10 gallon sump collects a lot of detritus that doesn't flow through the first two chambers. Because I use a Mame overflow I'm not pushing as much water and less refuse gets to the skimmer and filter floss. Occasionally I will vacuum out what is collecting, but because i'm not able to use a siphon - and the tightness of the space - its a pain. I don't really want to use a sock. Has anyone tried adding a very small pump to create more agitation in the first chamber to stir it up and move it to the other chambers? Any downsides? Thanks. dan Link to comment
Halo_003
There are no really major downsides IMO, a little pump in the 200GPH range should work out just fine. The only real downside is the pump will gradually get dirty so it's one more thing to clean occasionally, and obviously you will have more suspended particulates. Link to comment
AZDesertRat
My skimmer is in my first section so it receives the dirtiest water coming from the overflow. This also helps an mircobubble issues since it has to go through multiple baffles and another section before it gets to the return pump. Link to comment
moy71
i've used a small wave maker in my 2-chamber sump. i started using it to combat cyano. 1st chamber is where the chaeto lives, and the skimmer. 2nd chamber return pump, heater and wavemaker. i also have a surface skimmer in there. btw in both chambers, i have several turbo snails which take care of the algae and food particles that slip in. after 2 months of using the wavermaker, cyano gone.
