Back around Sept of 2015 I switched to Red Sea Coral Pro and since then my tank has started to kinda go down hill. Zoas reducing frog spawn slowing going away, great hair alge and now starting to see a red slim starting to come about on all the rocks goes away at night comes back during the day. Fish are active 2 clowns and a yellow watchman. I have 3 bta that are always blown up, started as one and split. This is a 14 Bio Cube with Steves led retro. As of yesterday new water change and started Chempure Blue nano packs 2 of them as there is about 10 gallons of water in tank. Also my test are good before and after water change 0 everything. Thoughts, should I switch back. I am also in process of starting a 57 to move everything over too.

What are your nitrate, phosphate, magnesium, calcium, and alkalinity levels at? What is your lighting schedule? Is your tank located near a window with direct sunlight shining into it? Have you increased your bio-load or changed your food source lately? You are going to need to provide us with some more information. I doubt the algae growth is a result of you changing salt brands. If you changed brands in 2015, assuming you have done a water change since then :P, you would have seen algae growth earlier on. Also, do you use RO/DI water? What is your TDS meter reading?

I actually noticed that I too got a lot of red slime (i think it was cyano) when I switched to RSCP salt as well. I actually had gha before the switch on my powerhead and it all turned to red slime. I had a five gallon with a sand bed so when I upgraded to a 17 a month later, I went back to NSW and saw some improvment (I live in cali and Catalina sea water is only 99 cents per gallon at my lfs.) I did notice one of my torches was not very happy with that salt and it definitely got Alk burn but some of my acans took off and grew like 4-5 heads. Since switching back, the torch is slowly recovering and the acans seem fine too. a important note is I also went bare bottom in my new tank because i thought sand might have been the issue.

What does good mean to you? I've also had trouble with RSCP or IORC combined with "ULNS" like low nutrients (0 nitrate and phosphate). I used hydrochloric acid to reduce my tank / mixed salt water to 8.0 alkilinity and it has resolved all of my issues (pale coral / burnt tips / patches / retracted LPS). Prior my alk was between 11 and 12.
