Tlonghorn
Well I recently got 2 "nassarius" snails but now I'm questioning that labeling and was wondering if I could get some help finding out it if they'll eat my snails (excuse picture quality camera phone) and it should be noted they do bury Link to comment

jamescstein
Whelk vs Nassarius I'd say Whelk based on the trap door you can see on it's tail. Link to comment

righttirefire
I have both whelks and nassarius snails. The large foot of the nassarius is obvious to me. My whelks have a suttle snail shape difference and a much smaller foot much. It be a couple days before I can get pictures for you. JMB or amphipod need to chime in Link to comment
ndrobey
Technically, nassarius are whelks, they just specialize in detritus. If you want to be sure if its nassarius or not, put something alive near the snail. A whelk will kill it. A nassarius must wait for it to die. Link to comment

SunWyrm
I vote nassarius. Honestly, yours looks exactly like the black nassarius you can find on Ebay. I think they're cold(ish) water? The whelks I have are fuzzy and look just like this dude: Link to comment
jamescstein
but don't nassarius also have a trap door just much thinner True. I don't trust any of them I guess the other question is do you have any bivalves or clams? If not, its probably not a big deal anyway. Link to comment
