Odobenus rosmarus
I'm moving to a new place soon and I need my tank to be as small and compact as possible. My current 4.3 gallon cube is a very obnoxious tank because its an ongoing project, I had a spare 10 gallon tank that I wasn't planning on keeping soooo I decided to tare it apart and use the glass to build a 2.5 gallon tank. I don't know why the pics are sideways. After the glass was cut I siliconed it all together with GE silicone 1. I know GE1 isn't the best silicone but things are tight right now and GE is super cheap I went out and bought a 14" by 10" sheet of 1/8" plexiglass from home depot (they didn't have black, only clear) for the baffles and dividing wall and a few PVC parts for the return. I also picked up an acrylic hand cutter because I don't have access to a saw to cut the plexiglass. About 45 mins ago I cut the plexiglass and siliconed everything in place! To cut the overflow and hole for the return I had to use a dremel so they are pretty messy, as long as everything is functional I don't really mind if things are messy. Although I'm not used to siliconing in such a small place so the silicone job is far from clean. For the return pump I'm using a 4$ 50gph chinese ebay pump lol. 50gph should give me 15-20x turnover rate depending on if the pump actually puts out what it says. For extra flow I'm going to use a koralia 240. Link to comment
Odobenus rosmarus
Here is the 4.3 gallon cube. On this tank I'm using a par38 purchased from ebay, which is going to be used on the new 2.5 until I can build my own LED. Link to comment
Odobenus rosmarus
Leak tests failed! I didn't apply enough silicone to the rear wall where the filter is and I've got a leak in the most inconvenient place ever! I have to get down into the bottom corner where the overflow is to seal it... Ughh. I would like to use a different light for this tank and I have a few ideas. I was at the LFS and I saw the Coralife Aqualight mini, I guess it uses the same bulbs as the bio cube tanks. It's 11" long which is perfect! Or if I'm feeling cheap I would like to build an LED fixture using two 3watt royal Blues and one 3watt cool white. Link to comment
