Arc 6.25 nano. Have water flow question (video included)

This is a Petco arc 6.25 AIO. (really about 5 gallons of water) I modified the sump area to have 4 sections. 1st is mechanical filter, the second is biological with Fiji rubble, the third is chemical media (running Clear FX Pro right now) and the last is the sump for the heater and pump. The pump has been replaced with a 100 GPH pump, and I modified the outlet to be near the top. I found that I was not getting enough surface disruption and had CO2 levels that crashed my PH. I also added an air stone to the sump for the time being. Not done scaping this tank as it is in it's early stages. Been playing with light levels and coral placement.

What I am curious about is if it looks like I have enough flow around the tank? The Chalice is going away and I do not plan on any SPS. Mostly Zoa, LPS and softies.

Doesn't seem too bad in terms of flow. I personally like a lot of flow in my tank, if it were me, I would add a small powerhead facing the rocks. This way you will get some water movement that bounces off the rock work and glass, creating a better flow pattern. You may nee to adjust it a bit until you find a position you like.

I would probably try putting something small on the left side of the tank, pushing water toward the right side, and maybe even angle it up a bit to add more surface agitation.

Turns out that there really wasn't enough flow. Corals may have lived, but not sure if they would have flourished. Added a small hydor circulation pump. Had to play with it a lot to find a happy place and flow. Bouncing the flow of the glass (bowfront tank) seems to get the best circulation throughout the tank. Pump is set at about half flow as well. Full tilt was definitely too much. Corals all seem to be happier. Especially the Goni and Frogspawn.

Which hydor pump did you get? Is it the Evo-Mag 180?

I have the same tank. My return pump is a Hydor Pico 200. My LPS and softies were happy about it until I got a couple of SPS frags yesterday. Their polyps extend but weren't moving, so I added the stock pump (40GPH) to the back glass on the left. Now my pocillopora's polyps are moving, but not my monti. I've ordered a 80GPH for the right side but I'm somewhat worried that will be too much flow for my LPS and softies.

Yes it is the 180. I have it at about 50% flow right now. It is a bit noisy, but my guess it that it will mellow out as the impeller gets slimed up a bit. You would be wise to take some reef glue and glue the pump into the mounting clip. I have been moving things around and added a few more pieces to get everyone happy with the flow. Only thing not completely happy is my pink tip cloves. Not going to worry about sps in this tank. My next set up will though.

Nice tank. I was afraid getting torches or frogspawn will cause a warfare in such a small tank. I thought it would be mostly softie, until I went to my LFS and saw some acans candy cane. And yesterday I went to another store saw some $10 SPS frags that I couldn't pass up on....

The Frogspawn and torch have been awesome in the tank. I have no doubt however that the spawn and torch as well as the goniopora will quickly outgrow the tank. The Hollywood stunner chalice has however been a problem. It slimes anytime it gets touched. It's looking for a new home.

Sounds like time for an upgrade? Haha. How long have you had the tank for?

Btw I added the 80GPH on the right. My acan hated it, and the monti didn't seem to enjoy the extra flow. I guess I'll leave it as is for now given all polyps are extended.

Couple months now, but yes. already in the planning stages of a 30 - 40 gallon size cube for my living room. would go bigger, but just limited on space (and my wife's patience) right now. She would love a Acan and sps tank, but kinda choked a bit on the price of the lighting lol
