Clown ?

Our 3.5 year old female (paired) clown has a pinhead sized raised red spot on her face, at the left nostril. Eating and acting fine. She had the exact same thing in July and it disappeared over a week or so. I thought then it was an injury, but since this is in the exact same spot, could it be some kind of infection? I have searched but cannot find anything similar.

Could it be Lymphocystis?

 

I had a few white lumpy dots on my dottyback. I think he was stressed from being attacked by my emerald crab. I gave him a dip and then I moved the emerald crab to the sump. The fish healed in a week.

What else is in the tank?

Just her clown mate, some nassarius, stomatella and one astrea snail. Softies, LPS and a sun coral. Red gracillaria. Nothing added but some mushroom corals in last month or two. The lymphocystis was a good guess but it is just the one spot and it is red, not white.

Thanks for asking, HolyCarp! She is still eating great and acting fine. Red lump still there, nobetter or worse. I went to our LFS yesterday and showed them pics, and he was stumped as well - thought perhaps a sting from our torch but since she has had it twice in the exact same place and only there, best guest is some type of cyst from ??? Adding Selcon to all meals now hoping it will help her fight it off again.

Actually you are right - it looks exactly like a zit!

I'm not all that familiar with fish anatomy but if there are any glads between the mouth and nasal cavities, it could be a blockage, swelling or irritation.

Good call. I looked up fish anatomy and this is where the "nostril" is on fish - not a true nose, since it is a blind end, but still a sensory organ. I am going to look into a dip in a hospital tank. She is still eating and acting normally. It is a bit bigger now, and I don't want to lose her - she and her mate were our first saltwater fish and they have been so healthy for 3 1/2 years.

My female now has a clear bubble over the lump. Any ideas, please? She is still eating like a pig. I have read and searched but can't find anything like it. Parasite, bacterial, fungus???

No, but we bought the two as juveniles after our first tank cycled - May, 2012. I am scared of doing nothing, but scared of treating wrongly! Adding Selcon to their food daily now instead of 2x week.
