yevgenb Posted November 30, 2015 Share Posted November 30, 2015 Hi, I have got a new skimmer from brs and instead of excitement got really frustrated - it make strange whinning noise even with fully open air valve. The depth is 8" Has anyone experienced similar issue and knows how to deal with it? Would like to explore options before asking for RMA. Thanks! Link to comment

yevgenb Posted December 1, 2015 Author Share Posted December 1, 2015 Full power. The tank is 43g total - red sea reefer 170. Today I removed impeller, sanded edges, lubricated shafts with silicon - will see how it will go, so far it was silent for about an hour. Link to comment

IMO the smaller vertex 130 although a little annoying to dial in is gonna be better. I personally wouldn't buy another skimz to replace. Jmo Link to comment
gus6464 Posted December 1, 2015 Share Posted December 1, 2015 I have that skimmer and the omega 130 as well. It is silent compared to the vertex. Looks like the skimz might just be defective. BRS has great cs so I doubt you will have a problem exchanging. Link to comment
yevgenb Posted December 1, 2015 Author Share Posted December 1, 2015 Yeah, I already talked to BRS CS - they said it's no problem to replace the pump, just trying to check if it's a operator error first BTW - since I lubricated it it was pretty quiet.
