mp10 reduced power?

Has anyone noticed that their MP10 seems to produce less flow over time?

Not sure if I am going crazy, I have had mine for a while, manufacture date is 2011.

Used to be that 100 caused a storm in my tank, noticeably moving sand on my sandbed away from the opposite side wall. I always ran it more in the 60-70% range. I can crank it up to 100% now and it doesn't seem to give the same oomph it did before.

And yes I clean the thing =)

My mp10 was running for two years straight and never lost its power, however I ran mine at about 40%. At one point I was able to pump it up higher and it would not move my sand around but I think it was because of the biofilm that was holding the sand together.

Maybe you have a thick biofilm on your sand that is holding it all in place. Or maybe it's losing power, idk lol

Yea - it is hard for me to say with any certainty. I have google searched a bit over the past ~6 months and never saw anyone else say anything.

It is also hard since people upgrade so often in the hobby not many people who run things consistently long term lol. I have had to have had this running for some 3-4 years continuously at this point. Hard to remember perfectly if this is how it always was, I just kind of realized one day that it seemed sort of weak and in a 20g tank 100% should be blowing things sideways.

I have an MP10 I have been using since 2012, I don't think it has lost power. It will slow down if it is due for a good vinegar bath though.

Did you open it and inspect the propeller? Sometimes snails will get inside a mp10 and cause bends/chips in the propeller which would probably alter flow.

I have a question folks. I have a 12 gallon long and a nano hydor 240 on one end. Also a ac 70 in the middle. I need to add more flow from the other end. Is mp10qwD overkill is jebao a better idea. I think the hydor raise the temperature in the tank and cause higher rate of evaporation. All thoughts welcome

You could use a MP10 without the 240. MP10 is more than enough, plus adds little to no heat as the motor is external.

I highly suspect you're getting biofilm/gunk that grows in your sand that keeps it more resistant to blowing around rather than a new fresh tank. Also, most of the stuff that would blow around has over time blown around to dead spots in the tank.

I must be crazy then. Have a mag 5 return and mp10 on full and don't feel like there is enough flow =p.

I use the sand as an example of something I would expect to get blown around on a 21" long tank with a mp10 going full speed.. Especially with oolite sand.

Will keep an eye on it, in hardcore tank fiddling mode right now.

That isn't really relevant to the question.

The question was simple - was asking if anyone has noticed if their MP10 has seemed to lose power over a long period of extended use.

Not asking for people to diagnose over a forum if my pump is pushing less water; asking if people have had a similar experience.

So far had one person with 2 years and one with 3 years say no -- still, mine has been active for 4 years and it wasn't until this past year I really noticed a perceived difference.

I have bought used MP10s that were 2 yrs old and a new one. They both seem to push the same after a cleaning, so I would say they are good. Use until the wet/dry side fail!

I'd say the question is valid. More stuff in the way creates less perceived flow.

I am not asking for troubleshooting help -- the thing is clean, there is no giant rock sitting infront of it.

Simply asking if anyone has seen their mp10 essentially wear out and produce less flow.

Might buy a replacement dryside, thing is old and is probably coming due for replacement anyway.
