Microbialhydra
So this is my first thread here and I just finished cycling my first sw 10 gallon nano. Last Sunday I got a small mantis shrimp I believe n. wenarae but I would like to have some soft corals eventually. Also I am currently acclimating a trio of endlers livebearers to full sw. For the filtration on the tank I have a aquaclear 70 refugium with a pound of live rock rubble with some cheato algae, a aquaclear 30 with a bag of carbon and the pump for my modified reef octopus ns-80 nano skimmer so it hangs on the back of the tank. In the display I have 8 lbs of cultured lr and 2 lbs of this other type of lr I can't think of the name of and about 17 lbs of fine agonite sand. Also I have feather clerpa and red macroalgae in the display. For lighting I have a cool white 10 watt flood light and 2 10 watt rgb led flood lights. Link to comment

Microbialhydra
I always have to stop and check out the mantis shrimps when I visit my LFS. I like that red Macroalgae! What kind is it?It was just labeled red macroalgae at the LFS but I really like it I got it when I got the mantis. Also how do I add larger pictures it will only let me post pictures under 1 MB and my other pictures of the tank are like 3 MB Link to comment

Microbialhydra
Does anyone know if a springeri dottyback would do ok with the mantis. I really want to get one for the tank I'm just worried it would attack the mantis. Link to comment
Microbialhydra
Also a new update of the tank Link to comment
Halo_003
Any fish is at risk in with a mantis shrimp, but I'm very curious how you got the NS-80 to work externally. This is a neat tank, really like it. Link to comment
Microbialhydra
I'm more worried about the mantis than the fish because I know they are known to eat inverts. Also for the ns-80 it was super easy to mod I just got a few 1/4" 90° elbows, a ball valve and some vinyl tubing I had that was a tight fit on the pump if I heated the tube up and it was a very tight on the normal input on the ns-80 and that stays water tight an on the bottom of the skimmer I used electrical tape as a gasket and taped it to high hell so it wouldn't fall off. And for the collection cup I just made a gasket again with electrical tape also the collection cup drain I just used a longer peice of vinyl tubing to a bottle Link to comment
Hammerstone
I love the colors in your tank!!? Link to comment

Tamberav
most likely... those endlers will become mantis food since they are so small. Very nice start though. Link to comment
Microbialhydra
I just got a hammer frag, a blue mushroom and some nassarius snails. I'll post pictures when they are in the tank most likely... those endlers will become mantis food since they are so small. The mantis seems to leave it alone it's been in with it for a little over a month but I do feed the mantis every day so it leaves the cuc alone Link to comment
Microbialhydra
So I found this little guy eating my gsp last night Link to comment
Keepswimmin
Personally I'd just keep the tank for the mantis and corals no need for fish plus it'll cut down on your maintenance. With more fish more bio load and more water changes Link to comment

Hammerstone
Could you get a close up of your mantis shrimp? ? Link to comment
Microbialhydra
Could you get a close up of your mantis shrimp? ?Probably not because he hides during the day and only comes out to eat from his tunnels in the rock but I'll try Link to comment
Microbialhydra
? I just did a 95% wc and did a rescape so he came out of the rocks so I scooped him up and got some pictures for you Link to comment
fishfreak0114
I love that mantis! Such a pretty color Link to comment
ajmckay
Awesome tank! The pink lights are crazy, but in a kinda cool way I suppose. Anyways, I also started up a mantis tank recently. It's in my "display sump" and the area is 36x10x12. I want to add some more unique rock sometime, that is just what I had lying around though the rock is perfect because there's a "bowl" formed into one of the pieces that the mantis hangs out in and then covers with sand at night. I believe I have a Neogonodactylus curacaoensis. I got it through a trade and it's kind of a bummer that it's a really shy variety (as most are, but this guy is like super shy). Link to comment
Hammerstone
Thank you for sharing your mantis shrimp with me ? I had never seen one before!!' Very cool. The other mantis was cute as well?? Link to comment
