Diy frag tank.

Well we ordered a trigger system sump but it was cracked during shipping. I was wondering do you guys think I could cut the acrylic and make a small little frag tank. Maybe a 5 or 6 gallon tank total and maybe a 3 or 4 gallon frag space with the rest aio? If this works what would be a good method to cut acrylic without melting it?

Melting won't be a problem if you use the right tools and blades. The bigger problem will be preventing it from chipping and cracking. With the sump assembled, you have no good way of supporting the side that you are cutting fully. Any kickback on a circular saw or jigsaw blade, and you will crack the acrylic. If you have, or know someone with a table saw, then that may work, as the side you are cutting will be supported. Use a fine tooth blade (80tpi or more, carbide prefered) for a good clean cut.

Quick and dirty frag setup. It's 30 gallons so it's quite stable. All you need is a trash can and a piece of eggcrate.

Like the idea but I'm looking for something small. Like small enough to fit in the stand of my biocube. It's a custom one 29x29

I can cut the middle chamber in half and take it to my shop teacher. Or could I use a dremmel with a cutoff wheel?

You will be there forever with a Dremmel, and you will go through so many cutoff wheels. If you know someone that can do it right, let them do it on the right machinery. It will come out looking 100% better.

I will ask my shop teacher today if I can use one of the table saws and get it roughed out then use a bandsaw or something like that.

The part that I'm cutting off will be the back chamber for the overflow so it doest have to be perfect. I'm also going to paint it black so I don't get extra algea growth and since I'm not going for a professional finish on the back it will kinda hide it a little.
