ReefSafeSolutions
Hey everyone, My dad and I were fragging a piece of branching green star polyps, and while gluing/rubber banding the new branch to a rock, some of the polyps got smushed. When we put the frag back in the tank, the smushed polyps released green spores into the tank. Pretty sure those polyps got killed. Will these spores/killed polyps crash a tank, or are they nothing to worry about? I keep reading about some dead coral that can crash your tank, so I wanted to see if you guys have had anything go wrong from dead green star polyps. Thanks! Link to comment
ajmckay
I think you're in the clear. I can't say I've experienced exactly what you describe but I've had the opportunity to rip up GPS on a few occasions and I'm sure I've squished more than a few polyps and sent chunks flying. Haven't noticed any negative effects thus far anyways. If you're still concerned or if you begin to notice anything you can always run some carbon for a little bit. Link to comment
ReefSafeSolutions
Awesome, that's kinda what I was thinking...I've never heard anything about GSP being toxic when they die off or anything. But, can't hurt to check and see. Link to comment
