Once a week one cup at a time....Big changes such as switching salt brands need to be done over a longer period of time.

Yikes I have done 2 jugs one week apart 8 cups each time of the new salt not a good thing I guess. So when I do a change you say 1 cup only each week?

Amy I wouldn't worry. I've switched between the two. Reef crystals just has elevated levels. You should be just fine doing what you are doing.

While I like Rehype's method of gradual change, it's practically the same salt mix. I don't anticipate problems if you start using it during typical water changes.

Oh good I have not seen the corals frown so far so that is good. Would any of you know the difference in calcium and magnesium between the two salts?

This isn't official and is a few years old; plus, recipes tend to change over time:

 

Salt - Calcium / Alkalinity / Magnesium

• Reef Crystals - 490 / 13 / 1440
• Instant Ocean - 400 / 11 / 1350
