MitchNichols
Yep another filtration question, I have a juwel rio 180, there's the original juwel pump housing with pump (no media) by chance the pump is the garbage one that does like 400litres an hour. So I assume that's trash and wants to go in the bin? I would like to buy the one that does 1000 litres an hour or maybe even 1500 litres an hour would that be enough? I'm not quite sure how this filtration thing goes with salty tanks. Usually in fresh it's the more the better. Also what media should I look at getting? Filling it with live rock? Sponges? Ceramics? Bio balls Please help Link to comment
seabass
Additional flow through the filter chambers is probably better, but the stock pump is likely fine. However, you will need additional flow in the display section (by adding a powerhead in the main tank). I'd recommend using live rock for the biological filtration. With that, you don't want or need bio-balls (or other biological filter media) in the filter chambers. As long as you keep them clean, sponges (or floss) are fine to use for mechanical filtration. You could add some chemical filtration (such as activated carbon, ChemiPure Blue, etc). Link to comment
