jsnj2009
I have a jbj 45 and was wondering what the different opinions are on automatic top off? Is it really necessary or just a counvience. Will my skimmer still operate properly without it? Link to comment
HarryPotter
I have a jbj 45 and was wondering what the different opinions are on automatic top off? Is it really necessary or just a counvience. Will my skimmer still operate properly without it? I have the same tank, and an ATO is absolute neccesarry if you don't want to be adding half a gallon of water to the tank daily. If you forget for two days you can destroy the pumps in the back- an ATO is quite critical in my opinion. The TUNZE osmulator nano is an excellent option, $99. Put a 5g bucket of water in the stand, and you'll have a weeks worth of water (or more). Link to comment
jsnj2009
Thanks for the advice. I just ordered one on amazon. Link to comment
TheKleinReef
careful with the nano, since it only has 1 mechanical sensor, instead of 1 mechanical and 1 optical sensor (like the full tunze), it's more prone to failing/getting stuck on or off. just be wary. Make it part of your routine to make sure the mechanical sensor is clean and stick free. otherwise, it's a great ATO Link to comment
lkoechle
I prefer my hydor smart level, but yes, your skimmer will definitely be better with an ATO Link to comment
HOTWATER
I've had the nano osmolator for 2 years without a hiccup. Great ato IMO. Link to comment
reefernanoman
I've had the nano osmolator for 2 years without a hiccup. Great ato IMO. I have also owned one for about three years and it has given me trouble only like 3 times :twice it would keep pumping because the sensor got dirty and recently I discovered that the magnet on the wet side was rusting (so I flipped the outer with the inner one since they are the same). Other than that, it has been a great ATO. Also I have been told that now Tunze has made changes to the magnet and that it is sealed with plastic for the units on sale currently. Link to comment
