Looking for an experienced coral expert to help me find out which coral this is! I'd like it for my future clownfish :)

Not sure which link works:

By the way I'm referring to the blue crinkly one that the clownfish is going on to in the middle

Wow thanks! Would you recommend them for a nano reef as relatively peaceful and easy to care for?

Well... Not really. They are super evil to any other coral and move around a LOT. So if it touches anything else, the other coral will die.

I had one briefly in my 45gallon and it kept on moving and killing coral. I ended up returning it.

I would reccomend a bubble tip anemone more- Google "Clownfish with BTA" for some awesome pictures

If you are looking for an easy anemone that looks similar to a carpet anemone check out maxi mini anemones. I have had one on the same rock moved to 3 different tanks for about 4 years. I have one that likes to move so much I found it in the sump bleached. I got it out and put it on the sand bed is seems happy there. They do stay small compared to the carpet anemone.

BTW clown fish won't go into a maxi mini.

Maxi mini looks really nice but I read that they don't host clownfish and that they are toxic to humans :( . Are there any corals that look like carpet anemones that host clownfish?

If hate to say it but it sounds like you need to do a lot more research on anemones and their care requirements before getting one. Also, it's no guarantee any anemone you get will host a clownfish so don't bank on that either. Thirdly,I don't know how long your tank has been up and running but please make sure it has had time to mature before adding any type of anemone. Not trying to be that guy but an anemone isn't like a Zoa where you can basically set it and forget it (until it finds a spot that makes IT happy, not necessarily YOU happy)

I second the above post.

I have maxi mini in an 8g tank. Its got great color and is very appealing. It moved around ALOT when we first got it. Now it has found a good spot and has stayed put for a couple of months. They do stay tiny compared to regular carpets, mine is about 4-5in across, saw a regular carpet at an LFS that was probably 1ft-18in across! it was pretty awesome

Did you ever get stung by yours? I heard they stick into things and sting them with some sort of poison. Also how's it behaving towards other corals/fish?

Thanks for your concern. I already know of the requirements of anemones and their habits. I haven't set up my tank yet, still researching, and I originally didn't plan on having an anemone anyway (I thought the specimen in the image was a coral).

I like the maxi mini and will further look into that. Also thanks for the mushroom coral advice, they look very nice.

I love BTAs but I'm scared of then terrorizing a small tank like a 20g and stinging corals. BTAs are very nice though. Did you ever have one in your nanos?

Maxi nems will host sexy shrimp or anemone crabs that's about it. Get a BTA you will love it and it will be fine in a 30 gallon. I have had a couple in my time :)

Yep! Happily had a Nem in a 28. Just put it in first so it decides where it wants to live

I haven't had the mini sting anything. Its actually nudged up against some pom pom xenia in my tank and both or still growing and happy.

I have a small rose bta in another 8g tank with no problems, also have a rather large rose bta in a 25g cube, it found a home in a corner and has been fine. If it starts to move around I might be concerned for my other corals. But all in all haven't had any problems with either bta.
