Hello all this my families 1st tank. It is something I've always wanted to do and never really felt comfortable with but we've jumped in with both feet now. :) When we started researching a few months ago. This is a culmination of that work.

Tank: 28 Gallon JBJ Nano Cube w/ upgrade pumps

Filtration: Intank media basket

Hydor Koralia Nano 240

Light: Nanobox retro fit (in route vis UPS)

A big thanks to Harry (nano-reef member) who helped my get started by giving me his old tank, pumps, stand, rock, and just about everything to get started. :D

WOOO HOOOO I RECOGNIZE THAT TANK!!!!

I realized that I forgot to give you the heater- whoops! If you are ever in the area just PM me :)

Also have a 100b bag of Activated Carbon you could get some from, a BUNCH of fish food, a few API test kits, etc.

LOL...Thanks you, you have been more than generous. I don't make it down that way often but if I do I'll may hit you up.

I just placed the Intank media basket and all the media goodies (floss, chemipure, and Purigen) from amazon so that should be here in a few days.

Day 2

Here is day two. Tanked has cleared up nicely. You can see there are tons of air bubbles from the cascading waterfall in the back tank near one of the return pumps. the wall between the heater slot has been notched down and is creating the bubbles, still searching for a solution if anyone has any ideas... I don;t think it will cause problems other than clouding the water a bit right?

Where are bubbles getting in?

Oh yeah its notched to fit that overflow box and plumbing I gave you.... You can either set that up or put a piece of filter floss on it :)

Yeah I was planning on trying filter floss when i got some from the store later. I rigged up a grill light till mine comes so I can see and that's when I noticed the bubbles. Should i try to secure it some how to just place it in the return chamber to "soften" the fall.

I placed floss in the chamber and has solved the issue. Thanks for your help.

So took my first readings of my levels last night PH was a 8.0 and 0s for everything else (not surprising but I wanted a baseline). This morning my wife to a water sample to the lfs (its across the street form my house) as they do free weekly testing, check the levels, keep track of them and give you a print out. They said everything looked good and wanted us the get some (damefish sp?) to start the cycle but I thought everything I've read said not to cycle that way and wait for it to develop naturally. Just curious on what some of you'll opinions are.

Right, DONT CYCLE WITH FISH. They'll get permanently damaged from the high ammonia/nitrate that will be coming within the next two weeks. A much better way is to dose ammonia or just put in a frozen shrimp to provide biological matter to get it going.

You can google (or search here on NR) "Cycle tank safely"

Yeah I had read on here and Google and saw thete were some varying opinions but the consensus was to wait it out and do the cycle fishless.

Yeah I agree :)

Soon what is your plan after the cycle? I know its the most boring time!

You could work on your aquascape, organize the wiring, fix the holes in the stand, etc while you wait :)

Mr Bubbles has 5 babies.... And shipping local is like $8! Ill help fill you up :)

Yeah I hope to get the wiring and the light in and tryout some ideas for the stand fix but I have a new problem.... the notched out false side wall (in the heater chamber) came loose at the silicone. I was trying to bend it back in place i and it completely broke off, basically removing the whole wall, which has eliminated the waterfall effect but is that going to cause any other issues with flow or something I haven't thought of yet? when this happened the tube broke loose from the elbow on the return inlet and water squirted all over the power strip I was you shorting it out. I've had some bad luck with this recently.
