A 48in tank with 36in T5s?

So I just got my hands on a 90g Sea Clear System II with stand and canopy and I was wondering if a 36in t5 set up would light the whole tank. It is a Tek 6 blub. I am hopping to fit it in the canopy by just slightly elevating the lights with two blocks of wood ontop of the acrylic tank top. What do you guys think? I want to start with Softies and LPS but would love to get a Clam down the road once the tank is well established.

You would be fine with the softies and some LPS. You will likely see some shadowing on the edges. Clam and SPS would not really work out. IMO

Thank you for the input. We will try to make it work then as I already own the lights. I don't plan on jumping into SPS but that is a little disappointing to hear about the clam. Im going pretty low tech with this one so its probably for the best!

If it's a right type of clam you can always prop it towards the top?

It's something I will consider. The tank is going to be set up in a month or two and I would want to wait 6+ months after the cycle finishes to add a clam, just to be sure about my tank stability.

Many people run this style setup. If I ever did 4 ft tank it would be with 3 ft t5s. With good ati bulbs keeping clam shouldn't be issue as long as it's not on edges.

Sweet. I was just worried about shadows on the edges but I am going to try since its the equipment that I have. Maybe in the future I will build an LED array for the tank but that would be far down the road.

problem here is if the tank is a standard dimension 90G tank it is deeper than a 75G. so not the best option for SPS or clams. unless clam was in center half of tank an placed in top half of water.

shadows shouldn't be much concern an actually will be nice place for Acans etc on the ends of tank.

I know people that kept clams long term under 6 bulb t5 in 24 inch tank. Oh and in the sand.......

Thats good to know. I will have to do more research but I am happy to hear that my light will be good enough for what I want to keep down the road (potentially). I got it off Craigslist a number of years ago for my 40 Breeder initially. That build never ended up happeneing and now I am trying to use this fixture for my 90 gallon.

I was only going to run a 6x54w light on my 75g and planned to keep SPS.

For sure. So my 90 is just a bit shorter then than the 75 so LPS should be no problem then? I want to do a zoa and mushroom garden on the bottom and LPS more towards the top. I am also thinking about getting a BTA.
