JBJ 28G Pro LED issue

Like the title says last week i was doing a water change and noticed 1 string of LED's were out. I have been trying to find a suitable replacement thread to see if this sort of thing has been dealt with before. One thread had stated they bought a replacement diode from reefbuilders.com and soldered it right in.

Has anyone done this? Another question is if I want to add in a few new colors such as blue/red can i just solder these into the strings?

thanks in advance!

Honestly, I wouldn't waste my time and money on that particular light, since it might fail again. I would recommend to just get something else all-together. I did a retro kit on my Nanocube hood from rapid, but I ended up going topless and rimless at the end. I hated the hood! Now my tank looks much better without a rim and it runs cooler too. Check out my NC 28G thread to see if you like my new look! Good luck with your issue.

BTW, someone here mentioned that they replaced a strip on their NC stock LED light, and a couple of months later, another strip failed! The colors on those stock LED's suck anyways.

Thanks for the info en28so. I have admired your tank since joining. Unfortunately I have 1 little hellion that runs around so the wife will not allow an open tank. I have looked at the retro kits and really like the full spectrum setup. I think with my bonus check this month i'll invest in that. I know that rapid claims their heatsink is better.

I would look into a retro kit from Dave at NanoBox then maybe? I have heard that they are very easy to install.

From what I have read if one diode goes out then the entire strip goes out because they are wired in series. Replacing one diode would correct the problem. Its surely a short term solution that is cheap but time intensive. Not to mention i fear breaking the hinges again.

Good luck with whatever you decide and don't forget to make a tank thread so that I can follow it. ;)
