Hey guys it's nice to finally be a member of the forums! I have been reading for the past month or two but never got around to signing up. I am finally posting because I have set up my first tank. I set this up March 26th, so about a week and a half ago. I have had many FW tanks over the years but never SW. With this tank I hope to have 1-2 clownfish in a couple weeks and with the hopes of in a couple months once I have learned a little more some coral and an anemone. Please if you are reading take a look at my tank setup and drop any comments if you have on some possible suggestions or knowledge to throw my way. I know my scape may need some recommendations and maybe some beginner coral or anemone ideas! And as always if there is a way I can help, maybe a FW question you can always shoot me a message.

Setup:

10 gallon tank

11 pounds Live Rock

10 pounds Live Sand

Zoo Med Aquasun LED HO 18inch

Hydor Koralia nano 425

Aquatech 5-15gallon filter

50 watt heater

@sedated Thanks! I'm probably just going with some basic ocellaris clowns to start with. But I am still researching which size I should get if I get mates and if smaller ones are just as hardy.

@protect Thanks man I appreciate the welcome and It seems there aren't as many 10g's as I originally thought lol

Welcome! Looks great so far, the only comment I have is your power head my be a bit much for the clowns. I am about 2 1/5 months into my 10 gallon and I feel that my 240 power head is a lot of flow for my clowns, and I had to place a couple of my corals in very strategic locations due to too much flow. Starting with larger clowns may help (mine were about 1").

@PDR you may be right about that one... I wish I had a way to turn this thing down! I'm thinking about buying a smaller power head and I could always use his one to mix salt in a bucket or on my next tank. Thanks and keep them coming!

I had a 10 gal tank for a year. I learned a few things. I would suggest more flow. In my tank I had an AquaClear 100, Aquaclear 30, Koralia 250 & Koralia 425. All running at full speed. Any less flow than this and I was risking CyanoBacteria (which is a nasty brown/red slime that grows in areas of low flow. If you want an anemone, you WILL need:

Access to your own RODI water

Auto Top Off pumping RODI water (the more precise your ATO the better)

Carbon filter (changed regularly, every 3 weeks or so)

this last one is a suggestion, but I highly recommend getting a controller like Neptune Apex or something similar to keep your tank 100% in check.

Thanks! I do believe I have a slight dead spot in the lower left corner and was thinking about adding another koralia Im just hoping I can keep my sand in one place as I just got this one placed so it does not kick around the sand.

get used to buying and replacing a LOT of filter pads (:

run carbon for 3 months on 3 months off, but don't fail to keep this pattern if you decide to start, stick with it.
