T5 lighting options

Hi all,

I am setting up a new IM Fusion 30L, and am considering going with T5s instead of my Radions. I like my Radions, but downsizing from a 90g to this little tank, they are alrady running at only 20%, and I am not sure I truly love the look of the corals with them.

I would really like to give some T5's a try, but am unsure what the best light to get it, how many bulbs, etc. I've only ever used LEDs, so this is a totally new ballpark for me.

What are the better options for T5s out there? I know I will probably go with ATI bulbs, but I am just not sure on the actual light. Should I go with 4 or 6 bulbs? Dimmable?

The display part of the tank is 36 x 11 x 13. I have a mixed reef, mosly LPS, a few softies, and a few SPS.

You are probably best going with an ATI sunpower as it has the best reflectors. I bought mine used for a pretty good price. For your tank size, I would recommend the 4x39W (4 bulb, 36") fixture. I honestly don't think dimming is worth the extra money for T5. It doesn't really dim that much, especially if you are used to seeing leds on a controller doing sunrise/sunset, and if this is something you really want, I would say stick with LEDs or go hybrid.

I'm planning a hybrid T5/Radion over the IM30L.

Once I get the T5 retrofits, I'll do a write up shortly afterwards.

Just got the T5 retrofits along with a set of Radion Wide Angle Lenses. Not sure when I'll find time to build it, but I will do a full write up for my IM Fusion 30L build

Just got the T5 retrofits along with the Wide Angle Lenses. Not sure when I'll find time to build it, but I will do a full write up for my IM Fusion 30L build with

1)Radion with standard TIR lenses

2)Radion with Wide Angle lenses

3)Radion with T5's

Hopefully this will shed some light on the hybrid subject. Yes I did go there ;-)

I'd say 4 bulb 24 or 36 would work. I have the ati dimmable fixture and love it. Not sure what person was talking about not dimming much. I have had led fixtures with dimming and this t5 setup dims very well. I can't imagine having a reg t5 fixture now after having this setup.
