Can I feed this to my clowns?

So I just bought 2 ocellaris clownfish but I was in a rush (work) and didn't remember to get food for them... Face palm... I can't get out to the LFS for a few days but I have some fish food I'm just not sure if it's safe to feed them. It's New Life Spectrum 1mm community fish pellets (meant for freshwater) and I have no idea if it's safe to feed them until I can get them proper food. I have lots of pods in this tank as its been cycling for about 2 months with nothing in it but again, I'm not sure if thats good enough for them to last either. Any advice is appreciated!

If they are going after pods I would think they'd be fine for a few days. I can't see any reason why that food would be bad. It may not be "ideal" but I doubt it would do any harm. Purely assumption on my part however.

I know you can't go to the LFS for a few days, but are you able to go to the grocery store? A lot of people make their own food with over-the-counter seafood.

Your fish should be fine. I know the NLS small fish formula works for both freshwater and saltwater fish. Even has pictures of both on the label. One of my clowns is pretty small at only about 1" and that one was having trouble with the 1mm marine pellets so now I feed them either the small fish pellets or my home made food. The homemade food works really well and my fish and corals love it. I made it out of tilapia, shrimp, mysis, scallops, spirulina, and some selcon. Tossed it all in a $10 food processor and kept the chunks very small. I've noticed that some of them are a bit too big still but the fish still pick it apart eventually.

I have an update! The fish are eating the food, they spit it out 3-4 times before they actually eat it, but they eventually eat it. It seems to be okay for now but I'm really interested in the homemade food you brought up. With the homemade food, would I freeze it like store bought frozen food? I've heard a lot about people making their own food for their fish and it seems like a good option, affordable too! What would you guys recommend for me: making my own food, or buying store bought? I only have 2 ocellaris clownfish but plan on getting a bangaii cardinal fish and a goby.

All of those fish are carnivores, so making your own should be easy, cost effective and provide a varied, healthy diet. Better than just mysis over and over!

Yea, it was really simple to make. The key thing is to try and get really good quality ingredients and blend them all together really well. Remember that the chunks need to be very small so that your fish can still eat it but you don't want to make them into liquid. I would definitely recommend a food processor to do this rather than a blender. After mixing it all together, I added the food into freezer safe sandwich bags and pressed it down so that it was a flat sheet about 1/2" thick. What I do now is break some off and toss it into a shot glass with some tank water. Once it thaws out in a few minutes, you can start feeding the fish. Normally you end up breaking off too much food for one feeding so I just toss the shot glass back in the fridge after I'm done and use it over the next day or two. I would not recommend keeping it for more than three days just to be safe. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but when I pull it out of the freezer, I like to get rid of as much water as I can and then add fresh tank water in order to get the food back up to temperature. Again, not sure if that matters but it's just something I do.

I buy seafood from the local asia grocery. I use salmon belly, squid, mussles, clams, sweetfish roe, shrimp, kelp and nori. I also throw in a few tablespoons of bluezoo food because they have some other stuff in it (like golden pearls) and then add RO water and blend it all good in the blender. Cost me about $15 and i used maybe 1/4 of what I purchased to make a flattened gallon bag of it. The rest is in the freezer for when I need to make a new batch.
