Hey all,

Just wanted to add our Fusion 10 to the list of many here! We began this tank shortly after Christmas, and it has certainly been a blast putting it together. I have been out of the hobby for a few years now, after having had many tanks, and even working in the industry for a bit (a large online retailer and a few local fish stores). This was one of the best surprise christmas gifts I've ever received.

The first thing that surprised us was the quality of the tank. Great thick glass, great sleek look. The second thing that surprised us was how great it was to have a smaller tank. I've really only cared for larger tanks, and loved the plumbing, tools and toys you get to have with a larger tank. This tank allows for ample customization, but also a great ease in maintenance. And the smaller size allows even the smallest of hermit crabs to be recognized and have personality.

So here are the details!

Tank:

Innovative Marine Nuvo Fusion 10

Lighting :

IM Skyye light 18w ( doing GREAT, but just ordered a nanobox tide mini and am excited!)

Liverock (single ~8lb rock)

Livesand

Heater:

Cobalt Neotherm 50w

Interesting experiences/challenges:

1) Toward the beginning of the tank we had three peppermint shrimp. Shortly after getting our first few corals, one rogue peppermint decided to rip apart the entire frag of hammer coral. There was barely any tissue left on the skeleton. It's quite atypical for peppermint shrimp to attack any coral, and in the time I worked in aquarium stores and have been in the hobby I've never heard of this happening. But a quick google search revealed that it's not unheard of. We quickly caught the peppermint shrimp, and the hammer coral was placed on the top of the tank closer to the light. It went from having only one sad tentacle to now being a full head of coral. It has lost some of it's neon color, but I hope with future nano-box lighting it will start to come back

2) Ich! Given that this is the smallest aquarium that I've owned, and given that we live in an apartment, I didn't think it was practical to have a quarantine tank. So we made sure to buy from a great dealer, buy from a fish only display with hopes that it was coppered, and buy captive bred clowns to ensure that they have less risk of parasites. However, 3 days into having the clowns settle in, they began itching and had the telltale white dots of ich. We quickly picked up a Nuvo 4 gallon tank, and treated them for a month while keeping the tank fallow. They just recently got placed back in the main tank and they are happier and healthier than ever. At the moment we have a YWG sitting in the quarantine for another week before introducing him to the main tank.

3) YWGs can jump through the tiniest holes! The Nuvo 4 had a nice solid glass top. However, it has a small 1/4" gap when centered over the tank. Shortly after purchasing, our YWG disappeared. We are fairly sure he was quickly picked up and consumed by our cat

4) Things can grow! After the incident with the hammer coral, we are very pleasantly suprised at how quickly and robustly things can grow back. Another example would be our xenia. An LFS had a small frag that had a montipora, green zooanthids, and a small colony of pulsing xenia. We fragged them apart, and the zooanthids quickly grew over the xenia. We were able to cut a small piece of it off, smaller than a penil eraser, and placed it into a small jar at the bottom of the tank. Now 3 weeks later, it has turned into a real, pulsing piece of coral!

5) Lighting: At first I doubted the PAR of the skyye lighting, as it came stock with the unit we got. However, it has consistently suprised me, with the growth and color that we've achieved with some of the corals. We've nursed back to health the hammer coral. And we've nursed back to health our Xenia. Our montipora and birds nest have been growing very well at the top of our tank. And our green star polyps are bright and now growing quickly onto the adjacent rock.

Plans coming up?

1) Ordered our Nanobox mini tide with controller! Can't wait!

2) ATO will likely be in the works in the future

3) Fuge in the first chamber?

Looks great! Thanks for sharing your experiences. You definitely won't regret getting the ATO :)

How do you like the Tunze Nanostream?

Heyo!

Eventually we'll grab one. For now, since my partner works at home, and we haven't travelled much, we keep a pitcher of RODI under the tank and top off as needed a couple times a day. This grated lid certainly allows for a lot of evaporation!

Regarding the Tunze, it's quite a bit of flow. There isn't an inch of deadspace in the tank. Our montipora, birdsnest and GSP love it. I thought it would be great, given that it's smallish, and with a DC controller, but even at the lowest setting, it took a while to figure out placement to ensure that sand doesnt go everywhere. It's also been hard to get loose mushrooms to settle even when putting a jar or something for them to keep out the current.

In retrospect, I think it would have been a great purchase later, when we've got more SPS and other things to use up the flow. But it will be something that follows us to a larger tank in the future.

Update!

Got a Smart Autoaqua ATO! My partner and I were weighing the Tunze nano vs the Smart ATO for a while. Given its smaller profile, we went with went with the Smart ATO. It was a breeze putting together about a week and a half ago, and it has worked pretty much without a hitch since it was installed.

Still waiting on that nanobox Mini with controller and moonlight channel. When its up and running, I'll share some pics. FWIW the star polyps have pretty much doubled in size, the monti and birdsnest are continuing to grow well under the skyye light. Have it connected to a current LED ramp timer and has pretty much worked without a hitch.

Welcome to the club! My minitide is also being built! Great start.

Don't ever get a peppermint shrimp again! They become coral munchers sooner or later! I don't know why they are considered "reef safe". And yes I had one of those little bastards and he took was eating corals!

Ha. Yea. those peppermint shrimp... It's funny-- in a past life before grad school, I worked in aquarium stores since I was 13. I even managed one in socal. And later I worked at Marine Depot. I've sold hundreds, and have probably owned a dozen or so without a hitch.. And this one bugger has changed my opinion forever. haha. Never again.

Update!

Today, we've upgraded to the NANO BOX Tide with BLUEFISH MINI. As great as the IM Skyye has been (great growth with GSP, Monti and birdsnest) Im excited to up the game, and get some better color. Really, I'm very impressed by the build quality, the heft, and the great control options. Currently midday max is set at 40%, and it seems to be about as bright as our skyye was.

Here are the pics at our last day with the skyye.

Maybe I might finally pick up that bubble tip anemone I've been eyeing.... Rose BTA or green?....

Also, does anyone know how to change the title of the thread? Would love to add "Nanobox powered" B)

It should be easy by clicking "full editor". Nice new equipment!

RBTA all the way lol my plan is to do either this tank or the 20 with BTA dominant, rose, green, and a rainbow and I guess you could say propagate them to fuel my addiction

Ha. I would agree... As an inaugural purchase after getting the nano box, we picked up a small ~1.5 inch RBTA. Super healthy looking, with a great foot, and he never even stressed out when getting placed. But he has since wandered to the way back, in a little light tunnel. Have been trying to encourage him to come out by moving pumps, and moving the light around. Cant remove his rock since its the base of everything, and also has a pistol shrimp and goby living underneath.

He just likes it back there.... haha. Will update with pics as soon as I get him to come out. meanwhile, the clowns have found him and are spending more and more time back there.

If anyone has any advice, it would be gladly received.

Don't stress about him hiding I know it's upsetting seeing a beautiful creature hiding lol but when I had mine he hid for a few days in the dark then slowly moved his way to the front of my tank, sadly I ripped his foot while moving him and he didn't make it, but i think it's because he was getting used to the lights I have LEDs and he was under T5s

Sorry to hear that, but once established you just can't "MOVE" a BTA. They just do their thing. I know that I never even tried to do that. Why were you trying to move it?

Trust me man I knew I was risking everything, it was either attempt to move it or lose a colony of bam bams lol it literally planted it's foot in a rock and was on top of them lol it was a horrible situation should have just waited it out

Ah, well, he's slowly turned around a corner and I think he's heading to the dront. I moved the lighting to encourage him forward. He's looking great otherwise. I'll update with pics as soon as he's settled! Hopefully he makes it through this weekend as I'm heading out of town.

Thanks for the support, team!
