TDS in my water

So, I have well water. I've been buying distilled water but wanted something easier. I figured since it is well water it would have super high TDS. Ordered a mighty mite, and a handheld meter. I've tested my water 4 times and got the same result all times...apparently my water only measures 006ppm. I'm seriously questioning the accuracy since when I occasionally top off with tap water I have diatom blooms and everything gets pretty upset.

What are you measuring the TDS with and how are you doing so? I find this very unusual as a TDS of 6 would be very agressive and eat household plumbing fixtures and piping.

Sorry to hear you spent good money on a mighty mite too since you can do much much better for less money and have a real reef quality RO/DI that will last, give you real reef quality water and cost less to service in the future.

I'm using a Senno TDS mini handheld meter. Following the instructions putting water in a cup, holding the sensor in the water push the button and it reads the TDs.

Ice heard decent things about the mighty mite.

Thats not a meter I have ever heard of so had to look it up.

Very low end as you can see by the accuracy ratings and the fact it is not ATC compensated. For $25 you can get a much more accurate meter with 2% accuracy through the full range and ATC temperature compensation.

Note the declining accuracy, the lack of ATC and the potential built in error in the Special Notes.

The mighty mite and other similar "portable" systems use non standard size filters which are not usually in the micron ranges reefers prefer, are harder to find, cost more to replace and do not last as long so need more frequent replacement. Research on any of the reef forums will back this up. What looks like a good deal really isn't once you research it. Besides that they really are nt any smaller or more compact than a real RO/DI, maybe a couple inches shorter in height but when you clip all the filters on it it is as big or bigger than a normal RO/DI with full size 10" vertcal canisters with standard replacements.
