fishmomma3
I'm pretty sure this question is somewhere here but I wanted to know what everyone does while adding supplements in their tank. Should I be turning off my skimmer and filtration system while adding cal, iodine, trace elements, strontium? And how about when I feed phytoplankton and zooplankton? Any suggestions and comments well appreciated. Also any suggestions for good coral growth. Thanks Link to comment
seabass
The skimmer might affect iodine, phytoplankton, and zooplankton. Most people don't dose iodine (nor do they normally need to). Figure out the daily consumption rate of everything you are dosing; you don't want elevated levels of anything. Stability is very important. Link to comment
GMay
+1 Only add things you are testing for and if you can prove you need it. Most supplements are so the LFS and other suppliers can make a little more $$$. Link to comment

Thanks for the input. Until I'm able to get test kits for those, im back to trying to maintain a clean and stable tank with water changes. My fellow reefer advised me that the best thing to do for overall health of the tank is water changes. I know I need to do more Link to comment

Removes bad or excess nutrients and replenishes trace elements that are not tested for. Link to comment

CronicReefer
10% is good, I do 20% but that's just because I use 5 gallon water jugs. I do use my turkey baster to blow out the rocks since detritus tends to settle in certain crevices. Link to comment
