how can I get my goby to live where I can see him?

I have a goby and pistol shrimp that I recently bought at the lfs that I have not seen since I introduced them in the shell they came in. I'm assuming that he is living under a piece of live rock because I seen him and the pistol shrimp digging under a piece when I put them in the tank. Is there any way to convince him to dig his hole in the front of the tank?

The fish was trapped, stuck in a dark box, then taken to another place to live for a bit, it was then moved again into another strange location. I know it's frustrating that you just bought the fish and it's hiding but it needs to get use to it's new surroundings.

Animals have their own little mind. I got lucky, since my two candy pistol shrimp and YWMG decided to make their home right in front of my tank underneath one of my LR. When was the last time you saw them? What kind of goby is it? some gobies, like the high fin, are very shy and almost never come out. YWMG's are way more bold.

So I guess the biggest reason I'm concerned is because I have an orange spotted prawn goby and from what I understand I'm supposed to be feeding him twice a day. I haven't seen him in 8 days.

I introduced him to the tank in a shell that he was living in. Once he left the shell I have not been able to find him. I know he is not dead because I check my water every other day. I guess I'm just wondering if I should look for him or just let him be.

Just let him be.. gobies will end up with 4 or 5 burrows in your tank that they will rotate between.. just keep feeding and hope he's getting it :)

My yasha goby hid for a few months after I got him, barely ever saw him. After probably 3 months he got comfortable and he explores the whole tank now, mostly at feeding time. I do see him every day now though feeding time or not. He probably just needs time to adjust.

Thanks guys I appreciate all the info. Funny thing right after I posted this I got my first glimpse of the pistol shrimp. I know the goby has to be right next to him because they came paired. I'm hoping to see the goby soon because they are so interesting. For now I still have my fire shrimp cleaning my multi colored pygmy angel that is also very interesting. Also has anyone ever seen a banded coral shrimp feed a Duncan coral a piece of krill? Mine picks up extra pieces of krill and feeds them to my Duncan and frogspawn.

They're probably spending all their time creating a nice large burrow in their nice large space. In my old 40 gallon I didn't see my YWG and pistol shrimp pair for nearly two weeks. I'd see new holes around the rockwork in the morning, but no fish or shrimp. They started coming out after they had created a nice home.
