cmlarch
I bought this coral about 3 weeks ago and only recently will they not open up and about half of them have dissappeared, not sure if they are dying off or if they are being eaten, I have led lighting but I don't think it is strong enough. Could the lighting be the problem? Please help with some advice !!! This was the before picture Link to comment
yomon347
Tank/light specs, water parameters? Link to comment
cmlarch
I have a 16 gallon tank, I'm not really sure the lighting when I bought it at the store they said it was good for saltwater aquariums. All of my water levels are normal, my ph is a low at 7.8 Link to comment
VW_TDI_02
What are you calling "normal"? Numbers would help for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate. Also, not going to be able to tell if it's the lighting without knowing something about the light. For your tank, is it the Nuvo 16 gallon? Some dimensions would really help as well since obviously deeper tanks need more light. Link to comment

Auto Midnight
I'm no expert but those look like they could be some sort of non photosynthetic polyp, try feeding them mysis or target feed cyclopeeze. Link to comment
cmlarch
I do a 10% water change weekly, ph-7.8, ammonia-0, nitate2-0, and nitrate3-0 I feed them live phytoplankton Link to comment
hypostatic
Oh, no, you need to feed them something meaty like brine shrimp or mysis (you can even try high quality crushed flakes). They also need pretty intense lighting Link to comment
cmlarch
This is what the inside of my hood says for the lighting. Ok ty, I will go buy them a better food source. Link to comment

I'm not familiar with this exact light, but I'm 100% sure you won't be able to grow much of anything with it. Take it back to the store if you can and get something appropriate for coral Link to comment
CrazyCarl
These are yellow polyps. Not sure if they will take mysis, most don't feed them, they just need decent lighting. Link to comment
CronicReefer
Yeah your lights are not anywhere close to powerful enough. You need to look into some T5HO or LED lighting that's designed for growing corals. Reefbreeders, Lumentek, Kessil, are just some types of LED lighting but there are many more out there. If you do go T5 remember that the bulbs will have to be replaced about every 8 months. Link to comment
HM3105
I am inclined to think it may be the light too but I am not so sure they would be closing up and dying that fast, if it was just lighting I would think they would be open as much as possible and reaching. On your params, you listed nitrate twice, was one of those NITRITE? Here are some links to good LED lighting options, depending on budget. http://nanoboxreef.com/store.html- These are a great option and provide great color, the people who use them are pretty much raving fans. https://www.reefbreeders.com/- Great value option and could be used when you upgrade. http://coralcompulsion.com/led/PAR-BULBS- PAR bulbs are usually plug and play but have none of the functionality of a full LED kit. There is a sticky in the lighting thread on them you should probably check out before you buy though. Marine Depot also has several LED options (Radion, AquaIllumination, etc) and T5HO options which many people like. MD would carry the same ones your LFS carries so if you can't wait for it to be shipped to your door its an option. Finally, you can always go with the DIY option if you're feeling handy. See lighting forum. You probably won't save any money going DIY just forewarning. Link to comment
