Nano Box Tank Recommendations

Recommended Posts

I get asked daily about what Nano Box light will work for their tank. I made a tank recommendation sheet that will hopefully answer those questions.

The Mini series has a full list, however the ones listed ( LPS ) means I can not recommend it with SPS. However LPS and more simple corals will do just fine.

Enjoy!

Surprised you don't have the PicO tanks listed in there as well

Will edit! I had them on the hand written list but forgot to add.

Thanks!

Add Coralife biocube 14 under the Oceanic. Coralife Biocube 29 as well. You'll still get asked even though they are basically the same and Coralife are the branded ones produced now.

Duo add Nano Cube 24 and Nano Cube 28. - never mind I see them now

I'll look around the showroom tomorrow for other popular additions if you want.

That would be great! Thanks Steve.

nice, since i'm thinkin bout getting a bigger tank for my tide.

i'd find it helpful if you would also give max. sizes for each light with sps and lps (which i read: good illumination even in the corners= pleasing to the eye, but not as high par), e.g. tide: 60x45x45cm (lps, right?)

keep up the great work dave;)

You've got the ADA 45P listed for the tide and the mono, are both lights going to be able to light this tank effectively? Or will I find the tide limiting for more light demanding corals?

Do you mean tide and duo? I had a flare(fresh water tide) over a planted 45p, and that light was ridiculous. I feel like a duo would have to be dialed down a lot on a 45p. But I will let the experts answer that fully.

Just guessing on the light size as I've never seen em in all their glory so please adjust if needed

Others you may want to add:

Tide

  • JBJ Rimless 8
  • Fluval Spec? There are 3 sizes
  • Coralife Biocube 14

Duo:

  • Nuvo 30
  • Nuvo 38
  • Red Sea Max 130/130D/C-130
  • JBJ Nano Cube Rimless 30
  • Coralife Biocube 29
  • Solana 34 (discontinued for a while, but still out there)
  • Cardiff 24 (discontinued for a while, but still out there)
  • Aquapod 24 (discontinued for a while, but still out there)

Quad:

  • JBJ Nano Cube Rimless 45

Look into the widths of the Fluval M60 and M40 tanks. They are getting very popular.

Whoops, I thought I was looking at the tanks for the mono.

Do you have a lost of tanks suitable for the mono, Dave?

I believe the mono is going to be phased out with the duo taking precedence. I could be wrong and this is the thread to find out, but I think there is more focus on the Flare and the Duo now. The Duo can be turned down enough if need be and is a great light if you start small and plan on upgrading. The Flare is great for freshwater and also is great at quite a few nano tanks but can't be expected to produce the same results over a 'larger' nano aquarium.

That's a shame, if they are being phased out, I'll have to make sure I get one now then. With the conversion rate, the duo would just cost me to much.

Matt you can use a Tide on this. However you will be limited to some SPS on ends.

You should have included the PicO 5g and 20g, even though I know those are technically done now.

don't mean to hijack the thread but what do you mean by "technically done now"

I thought Chris had removed those models and was doing new things? Looking at the site they are back up, so I was clearly mistaken

I just wondered because I just had mine leak out recently and am working with PicO to get a replacement shipped with clear silicone.

Oh, yeah, even if PicO was for some reason to not have these anymore, I 100% guarantee you they would make one for you as a replacement for a leaky one. Heck, they would probably even make one custom if you really wanted it. Top notch customer service. They'll make it right, no matter what.

  • 3 weeks later...

I just got two more in yesterday! We may have to spill this over into the extra office space we use as a photoshoot/kitchen room now.

That couch needs to go, taking up valuable tank space.
