MysticReef
Any ideas? This thing is attached to the rock by the favia. It came on a piece of LR I got recently. It's squishy and doesn't move. Sorry, it's the thing that's to the left of the favia in the picture. Link to comment
neuwave
I assume this is florida rock? Link to comment
MysticReef
Probably. He said it was from the Caribbean. I got it from a LFS. Link to comment

MysticReef
Very cool. Thank you. As for the rose coral what is that? I was pretty sure it's a favia Edit: Sorry, your right it's a rose coral. Had to look that one up, lol. I'm assuming it's a type of LPS? Link to comment

A completely different coral than a favia. Rose coral (Manicina areolata) is a lps coral that comes from the Caribbean and also located off south Florida (basically the tropical western Atlantic). Think of it like a Trachyphyllia but from the Atlantic instead of the pacific. Yours looks like it's in good condition. They are not allowed to be collected except in your case when attached on live rock as a hitchhiker. So you are a lucky reefer! Link to comment
MysticReef
Thank you for the info! The LFS I bought the LR at actually had a few pieces of rock with the rose coral on it. Even the guy who bagged it up for me assumed it was a favia. Now I'm excited. Hopefully it does well in my tank. Link to comment

Keep it on the sand or just low in the tank and medium to low flow. You can even feed it little bits of meaty foods. A mysis dinner would be a nice treat. Link to comment
MysticReef
You're awesome! Thanks again. I have tons of mysis in the freezer so I think I may try to feed it tonight since I see it's tiny feeder tentacles out. Link to comment
amphipod
Just saying you can always tell a sponge from a living tunicate by touching the siphon, if they contract its a tunicate Link to comment
