MysticReef
Picked up a piece of LR today and saw this little guy. Good or bad? Link to comment
rone_kevin66
Here is a good Id set http://www.chucksaddiction.com/hitchcrabs.html. I don't trust any crabs but somewhat looks like a Petrolisthes Link to comment
MysticReef
Hm, the only thing is he has 8 legs and 2 claws. Also he's pretty hairy, especially on the legs. Link to comment
reefernanoman
Even the so called "reef safe" crabs can become monsters. i wouldn't take my chances. Link to comment
MysticReef
That's what I was thinking. I have someone willing to take him even if he turns out to be bad. I uploaded some more pictures. I'd really like to get a positive ID. Link to comment
Mr. Microscope
Glad you found a home for him. I think he probably belongs in a dedicated pest tank. Link to comment
amphipod
Crabs are fun, only mine have destroyed all my clams I still love them. Link to comment
MysticReef
Currently I have a green emerald crab in the tank and he's been pretty good. I feed him meaty foods a few times a week otherwise I've just see him munching on algae. Link to comment
amphipod
That's pretty cool, nice you got friendly crabs. Beware though of adding very expensive sessile organisms, crabs can turn your other additions into snacks quite quickly. Link to comment
ndrobey
Blunt, light colored claw tips generally means algae-eater. Link to comment
MysticReef
Thanks for the info all! I'm pretty sure he's a ruby red (emerald) but I'm still going to keep him out of the display till I'm 100% sure. The tips of his claws are white like I've seen other pics of the red emeralds. And he has the same body shape. Link to comment
amphipod
I'm glad you won't kill him Link to comment
scottsdale454ss
Yea he looks pretty cool. The ones with sharp claws are the ones to watch out for. Link to comment
