Baby Mantis or Just Green Amphipod?

Found this little guy sitting in the corner of my tank yesterday and he seems to have made himself a little burrow in the sand up against the glass over the last day. From what I know of pods they like to swim around a lot and not usually just set up shop in one spot so I'm a little worried. I did just pick up some chaeto from my LFS that was loaded with pods and worms, and a few brittle stars as well.

I know the picture isn't the best but it's all I can get without a nice macro setup. He's green and yellowish and about the size of a big "pod". THANKS!

I just turned a flashlight on him and he was sort of out of the burrow, working on it and then moved back in quickly with the light. The burrow is also on the top of the sand bed, not down into it. He has pulled it over top of him.

Ha okay thanks! I've never seen such a green pod before and his behavior is just way different than any of the other pods I've seen in my tank. I figured I was crazy! omgomgomg

Good to know. Thanks to both of you! Anyone know what kind of pod it might be? He is a very cool green color in person and has a bit of yellow in him as well. All other pods I've ever seen are much more white in color.

The world may never know, many amphipods are told apart by slight internal structures, even at that there can be variation between individuals. The amphipods as a whole are a greatly understudied group, much like many other sea creatures.

Also many amphipods love to eat high protein foods, throw a few sinking fish pellets in there and they should go at it.

Yeah good point, I suppose there are tons of different species so probably very tough to ID it. Maybe I'll make a new discovery for science! Ha
