Hi guys,

Look what I found on my aquarium glass this October night.

...a Starfish! Or I would assume. It is missing 2 legs though....will they grow back?

...it is a starfish right? lol.

...did some research, apparently it could be a Asternia Star, heard some of these critters eat corals...

Some eat coral most are safe

I've got about a dozen between my two tanks. Mine have been fine (and I think they look cute :) )

The occurrence of 'bad' ones is apparently low, and I don't know if you can differentiate by sight. If it's trouble, just pull it out..

I've got some, and the population is growing, that are dark gray with a white trim around the edge. You can see the trails they leave behind from eating the algae. They are great for algae cleaning. They are able to get at the algae that is embedded into the rock work.

Most eat algae.

+1 (or detritus)

These guys are kinda like nudis with regards to figuring out what they eat -- it's where they're spending most of their time. Are they always on the glass? They're eating what's on the glass. If you see their yellow/orange stomach on the glass, you're looking at them feeding on whatever's on the glass:

Is there Anywhere to buy these or the brittle stars online

Is Pet Kingdom going to get into the asterina star business? Haha....
