Cool Beans
Seems kinda backwards, but I'm thinking of trading out most/all of my stonies for leathers and 'shrooms/zoas. I have a pinkish and a greenish Birdsnest colony that are growing like weeds that while neat, they aren't interesting. To be honest I have a small Kenya Tree forest that is more intersting to watch. I moved my frogspawn to a plug to dip and try and bring it back. . .but in it's place I glued a nice Xenia colony. If the Xenia takes off, I'm not putting the frogspawn back. . .I have a 17 head Duncan (since it was 3) that I might keep out of everything, but I can see trading it out for something like a figi leather or green toadstool. . . Just some examples. I just got a green nepthea frag, and I need room lol. Also, being a work tank, I'd like to make it a little easier maintenance wise Just out of curiousity, has anyone else progressed down this path? Most people seem to go the opposite way. . .I've had the tank for 10 months now, and I'm starting to get a vision of what I want it to look like. . .and thats a forest of mushrooms and zoas with some nice leathers poking out Colorful, full of movement, and just let it go nuts! Polarcollision
after watching a dive video from Indonesia, I completely see the appeal of a softie dominated aquarium. Check it out - link is in my thread here: http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/337141-polarcollisions-nuvo-24-sept-photo-dump/?p=4845756 Link to comment
hey
I only do lps and softies, and mostly just euphyllia for the lps. Love motion. I am sure I could get a doser and keep sps in the system but its not my thing, nor is it my style of reefkeeping which is very laid back. Link to comment
NorthGaHillbilly
I dabbled with SPS, and while I still like encrusting montis, I hate to come home and have left with a sps frag with nice PE and color, and come back to a STN skeleton. I try and figgure out what the deal is by talking to some SPS buddies and I get... yea that happens sometimes. Im not going to get rid of the ones I have, but Im going to go back to the LPS dominance I really like the most. I think a majority of the reason I was looking into SPS was macro shots, and the appeal of keeping something that is so "expert only" if you know what I mean. Link to comment
plainrt
I go back and forth on this and in the end I love a good mixed reef. I hate a tank of just sticks. Link to comment
Cool Beans
That video was amazing! And a bummer, since no man-made tank can ever have that much diversity That's kind of how the various Birdsnests and LPS ended up in my tank. SPS more so because of the "cool factor" of having something like that in a nano. . .and it's funny and kind of sucks but ever since I have been really breaking down and uber cleaning my tank, getting water parameters perfect, etc. . .the LPS and Softies growth has slowed/stopped But the SPS has grown over a dozen 1"- 1 1/2" branches in the last month BFD, lol. . . Months ago when I was doing 2-3 water changes a month and not testing/dosing anything, everything else was doing great! I guess you can do one or the other? I'm thinking "other", there are blue and green devils hand leathers Link to comment

Cool Beans
is that the same as a Green Nepthea? I just got mine yesterday, and have it sitting pretty about mid-way up the tank. . .just need to find a permanent home for it. Right now the plug is just wedged in where I could fit it :/ Also Link to comment

vlangel
I can't say I went the progression of SPS to a softie dominated tank but I can say I have always loved softies. My first reef was a 90g softie tank and I loved the movement and ease of care. I faithfully did my WCs and that was it. I had a magnificent green sinularia that I really miss. My next tank was an LPS dominant tank and of course I still love the movement but I have since connected a softie/planted tank for seahorses to it via my sump. So alas, I have my softies back and I'm liking it. Link to comment
