DaveDe
Has anyone ever added a darker substrate to a preexisting white sand - and how did it look? I'd like to tone down the brightness of my tank and I thought adding a darker substrate would be the easiest way. I wish there were more choices between white and black too. Link to comment

I wish there were more choices between white and black too. black sand can usually be stuck to magnetic cleaners not all but most I have encountered. Also, it ends up with a salt and pepper effect color wise. If particle size isn't matched closely enough granular convection or the brazil nut effect occurs where the large particles find their way to the top and the finer particles all end up on the bottom, over time giving you a single colored substrate again.
