derekwag
So I've had a planted freshwater tank for about 6 months now and my gf wants a salt water. Anyways, I bought a 45 gal hex in hopes to have a reef tank in the next year. I plan on building a small sump to put a skimmer, and heater in. I aslo plan to get a eheim canister filter (love it in my fresh water) and use it to pump the water from the sump to the tank and also filter the water. If there is a better way or flaws in that system I would like to know. Besides that I would like to know what kind of lighting yall would use (preferably under $400). what over flow would yall suggest? skimmer? And also any advice you would give to a newbie. Anything is helpful at this point. Link to comment
seabass
Welcome to N-R.com. I don't see the need for a canister filter when you have a sump. Instead, an overflow kit from Glass-Holes and return pump is the way to go. The filtration could be a skimmer and media reactor. For a Hex tank, a pendant light fixture would be a decent choice. What are the dimensions of the tank? Link to comment
