New here and to the hobby

Hello Everyone. I have been looking at the site for a while and thought it was time to finally introduce myself. I have had fresh water tanks before but this is my first reef tank, I purchased a 12 gallon Aquapod from a co-worker in June. It was all original when I got it. So far I have upgraded the return pump to a mj 1200. I am looking at a light upgrade and possibly a protein skimmer.

I look forward to being here and learning more about the hobby.

Howdy!

I am in pretty much the same position. Kept freshwater for a while, and recently started getting a taste for salt!

People on the board are friendly and very helpful. I feel like I learn something new everytime I visit :-)

I started with a TMC 30 litre Aquahabitat. Have added a pump, and am making a media basket for it (when the acrylic cutter I ordered arrives) I have ordered a Nanobox Reef and the Bluefish LED controller as well. I need to find a quieter air-pump for my skimmer!

Welcome man!! This is an addicting hobby!

What live stock are you looking to keep? EcoTech Marine, Kessil, and AquaIlumination all make amazing systems. AquaUFO makes a killer light for the buck. The only knock that most people have on them is that they are using 6500K whites instead of 10000K. This gives the tank a shallow water appearance. The blues are more than enough to still get everything to pop. I love the look since it allowed me to have a tank with "truer" color without loosing the pop you get with the 450-453nm blue. My only complaint was not being able to dim it... But I got better growth rates from it on my 10 than I did the 70W MH I had running on it. But for $200 it is a steal -not sure why these guys have flown under the radar for so long with folks.

If I had to do it again though I would have gone with the EcoTech Radion with its unreal adjustability and programming functions.
