ackattackkk
I have a standard 29 gallon stand was just wondering if this stand would be stable enough to hold the weight. 29 gallon stand. Link to comment
jestep
Should be fine. If you do get one of those stands, be extremely vigilant at cleaning any water up. I had a normal cabinet style one but it barely lasted a year and I almost lost my tank using it. The coating isn't waterproof and the MDF expands and breaks down if it water is able to get into the core. Link to comment

jservedio
It'll hold your tank fine for years, but if you are paranoid you can add some metal brackets to prevent torque stress and/or build an internal frame inside of it using 1x2" pine. I have a 26g bowfront MDF stand for my 20g that I gutted to fit a sump. Because I removed 1/3 of the support to do this, I had to build an internal frame out of 1x2" pine. With the internal frame, it is much stronger and stiffer than it was before modification. If you have a glass tank and the option, why not just by a basic pine stand? If they could be had within 50 miles of where I used to live I would have went with one of those. They are normally cheaper than the MDF stands Petco sells - I know I can pick up one for about $50 from the LFS here used. Link to comment
Havok_9
I would find one made of solid wood, not particle board like most big box stores supply. There was a thread on here a few months ago where a reefer found a nice very nice designer table and repurposed as a stand for their aquarium. Link to comment
Tamberav
I would skip stands made from particle board also. Even small spills seem to quickly ruin them. Link to comment
