Question for IM 30 & 38 Owners

I am curious about the lower rear chamber. I realize it is there to keep the pump from running dry, but it seems that detritus would accumulate there. What has been your experience, and do you need to do any special maintenance of that area? I'm asking because I'm working on a design for an AIO or I may decide to get an IM. I noticed the new Fusion 40 has a similar design.
