I have a few pieces of live from from an old tank, that is now dried up, but it has a bunch of green hair algae on it. I tried scrubbing it off, and it sorta worked, but is there something I can use to more or less wash it off?

about 1 cup per gallon of vinegar to water and let it soak for an afternoon. a bottle of perioxide in a 5g bucket and let it soak would probably be effective too.

I would probably try perioxide first since it wont disolve the rock

Bleach (NaClO) is a possibility... but not one I prefer. From what I recall, bleach + ammonia = chloramines and those can be particularly difficult to remove/detoxify. I don't know what levels of ammonia can be leached from old rock (with decomposed/desiccated organic matter attached) but it's not a risk I would take when peroxide is as cheap and (IMO) safer... dont get me wrong, bleach is an amazing cleaner but I like using it on non-porous surfaces. Just my .02
