jgaepi
My tank has been up for 2 weeks. Cycle is still not complete. No fish in the tank yet. I have a layer of cloudy white film/sheen on top of the water in Chamber 2 of my BC 14. I took out the bioballs and stock filters. I replaced with an Eshopps filter and a carbon bag. It doesn't appear the film layer goes too deep. Normal? I wish I had cut the overflow lip from Chamber 1 all the way before I got the tank up and running. Link to comment
seabass
Put a paper towel a top of the film, then remove it. It will suck up the film. Otherwise, you could use a small glass (like a shot glass), and lower it at a slight angle (right side up) so that an edge is just under the waterline. This will draw the film into the shot glass, where it can be removed. Note, the film shouldn't cause too many problems (even if left alone). Link to comment
jgaepi
But is the cloudy white stuff normal? Link to comment
seabass
If its just a cloudy film, I wouldn't worry about it during the cycle. However, think about getting some mechanical filtration (floss) to help catch and remove surface films. The best way I know to do this is with an inTank media basket: http://shop.mediabaskets.com/BioCube-14_c15.htm Link to comment
jgaepi
Funny, I just ordered 30 min ago. I have an Eshopps sponge and carbon. But I was worried early on it wouldn't be a good option. Link to comment
