messias
Hello to all, Even after reading through all info I could get my hands on... with these led "things", the diferences are so huge between the "theoretical" same type of leds, that one (well...ME) cannot compare anything anymore... I confess I am confused! So I´ll go the old fashioned way and... ask you "experienced ones" I have a 20lt cube that came with some pathetic little light, so I am about to order a suitable one, but I am very inclined into one of the "aquasunspot" from Aqua medic (It´s the only decent one available near me) I only intend to keep softies. The available height above the tank is around 30cm What to choose? Aquasunspot 7 or Aquasunspot 12 http://www.aqua-medic.com/product/aquasunspot-7/ http://www.aqua-medic.com/product/aquasunspot-12/ I ´m afraid the the 12 would be too much... or not? Thanking you in advance, Filipe Messias Link to comment
evilc66
You will be fine with the 12W version, but I'd really look into a better lamp. You are paying a lot for what you get (or don't get in this case). For about the same money, you can get a full spectrum 18W lamp from other vendors like Coral Compulsion that will look infinitely better than the bland cool white and blue combo you get in the Aquamedic lamps. BigRed10
IMHO you'd be better off with one of the par bulbs that uses 3w LEDs. Coral compulsion and reefkoi both have great par bulbs you may want to look in to Link to comment
messias
Thank you for the hint guys! They sure look great, but It´s NOT easy to get those kind of lamps here in the Czech Republic... What about the ones from marinereefled? These I can find over here... And for my little 20Lt tank, would a PAR20 be enough? Or would I have to go with the 38? http://www.marinereefled.co.uk/par20-quadspec-mini/ http://www.marinereefled.co.uk/par38-quadspec-v2/ Thanks again! Link to comment
evilc66
Those are better. You would be better sticking with the PAR38. It will give you a lot more flexibility in both the corals you can keep, as well as the size of the tank you can put it over, if you ever decide to upgrade. Link to comment
messias
Thanks Evilc66!! Many, many thanks! I was just afraid that something that big would just result in some "fried fish or coral". In that case... that´s what I´ll get! Link to comment
evilc66
It has the potential for being too powerful, but you will have to adjust it's height to achieve the right intensity. That's the same story for all PAR38 lamps. Link to comment
