I have my reserves about this new IM skimmer, mine arrives Friday. If IM puts out another POS for big money that will be it for me.... I won't ever buy another product from em. Best thing the ever made was the reactors IMHO

I just saw an article on the Tunze 9001, looks like a tiny skimmer. What I didn't expect was that it ran a air pump vs. a standard skimmer pump.

Let me know what chamber it actually fits in. I tried it in 2 year old nuvo and it didn't fit (too wide) in the chamber to the left or right of the intake chamber as directed. Ended up putting it in the pump chamber and is resting at the proper water level on my two eheim pumps.

Needed to add this to the site: *Please note: the Ghost skimmer will not fit 1st generation Nano 16 aquariums (as directed) manufactured in 2011 & 2012. Please measure your aquarium to confirm fitment. It will fit the 1st generation in the pump chamber, height modification required.

The way you can tell is by checking the serial number off the 16g, if the first 2 numbers start with 12/12 and up, the skimmer should fit.

You'll be fine then, mine is 2 years old

What about putting the new Tunze in a Nuvo 8 in the back chamber? Would it fit as its getting tight for space with a mj900 & heater? My heater column has your fuge basket in it so im wondering where the magnetic holder would go. By the way, just got the Nano Osimator, works great on my IM!

The Tunze 9001 will fit in the pump chamber of the IM8 ! The magnet would face the fuge chamber. You may have to unhook the fuge basket and put the loose magnet inside the basket. On the heater that depends on what you have. If it fits behind the return elbow or to the right of it they will all work together.

You could also glue a thin magnet to the rear of the skimmer and mount it to the rear wall. This would give you better water level control and keep out of the way of the fuge basket

the given specs look about the same as a the 9002. whats the real life difference like stevie? is it really worth it to step down to a 9001?

It's basically a less tall 9002, with a proper shaped cup. The width is the 9001 without it's magnet poking out the side. The 9001 has a recessed magnet.

I haven't run the 9002 in a few years now live but so far I like it better. There is little break in, the air adjustment couldn't be easier, the foam is much better, it has a silencer and makes no noise. The body doesn't fall apart like on the 9002.

I guess it all comes down to monies and if you want to give me more jet fuel. I haven't been running it even 24 hours and I have tea like skimmate with chunks in it.

The largest benefit for us it is way more n00b proof. If you keep it at the proper water level it will perform out of the box. n00bs and skimmers don't often agree.

I would say so after playing with it making it go up and down, much better foam at the water level mark on the body.

I have an ATO so that's never been an issue in the past.

I have a Nuvo 8gal. and really want to add the 9001 but had concerns about the fit restricting the overflow of water from the thermo/fuge (2nd) section to the return pump (3rd) section...The pictures are super helpful but, I wanted to see if anyone had these running with water in a Nuvo 8gal. yet.

Should I be concerned with restricted flow causing the return pump to run dry? I'm using a Tunze 1073.008 as return, running at about 160gph

I have pics in my signatures thread link in my nano cube 28. Not great quality pics but gives you an idea of size. It is in the main display area and takes no room up.

I have had the Ghost skimmer in my IM 16 for 4 days and it's skimming well. I am pleasantly pleased! Here is a pic:

skimmate%204%20days-XL.jpg

The skimmate is very dry and foamy comes all the way up to the lid and then barely spills back over into the cup as its so dry. This is my first skimmer that worked having the old IM desktop skimmer that sucked!

It took a few tweeks with the air and height and voila, it started skimming....I was all prepared for 2 to 4 weeks of waiting to break it in, but it looks like its hummin along!!
