pvc overflow question

Recommended Posts

Ive built a pvc overflow out of 3/4 inch pipe and made it to specs I found on here save one design, the check valve to an aqualifter, the overflow worked perfectly for two weeks, last night I decided to turn on my filter in prepreration to move my livestock in the next week, this morning I woke up to find my overflow swamped, the filter sits direclty accross from the overflow, would this extra flow over the top be enough to swamp it? Any help is apreciated

What design did you use? Depending on the flow rate you have been running through it, having the check valve and aqualifter removed from the design may lead to the accumulation of bubbles in the U that sits over the lip of the tank.

I am not quite sure I understand what you mean about your overflow being swamped... Ideally you would want to have the filter return away from the overflow so it doesn't pull the just cleaned water.

Didnt know there where diffrent designs, the filter is on the oppsite side of my 20long, in normal operation the inlet tube has an empty space in the middle wheree there isnt water, when it was swampee it was compleatly filled

Why did you decide to overflow instead of drill?

Oh, its already running. Nm, I was going to say that the chance of flood is too great for me ever overflow again.

Drilling is way easier than I thought it would be.

That and I didnt want to be limited, like able to use the tank stajd alone or be able to mod the overflow if needed, I also didnt forsee this issue, so its puzzling, I think that the filter was pushing too much towards the inlet tube, and cause it to swallow a chunk of air, I turned my filter all the way down and pushed the pump to just under the water surface so if something happens while im at work it wont flood to much

well after puzzling and tinkering i got it working like regular, since my wave maker and filter where on the same side, the inlet tube got too much water too fast, so i moved the wave maker opposite the filter to cancel each other out so we will see what happens

If that doesn't fix it, post some pictures so we can see what's happening.

Good luck on your fix

thanks its been running since around 4om yesterday this new way, so we will see
