slowngreen
Since all fish seem to be different from one to the next this is just a general questioning of the yellow tang juvenile. Thinking of getting one for my 75g. Question is how would it do with smaller fish? I have a ocellaris, bangaii and reef chromis, all are small, likely just over an inch in length... The yellow tangs my LFS has are all real young but Im curious as to how they will act/treat the smaller fish once they start growing? Live aquaria lists them as semi aggressive, but they also list the kole that way. Bluezoo lists them as peaceful, same with the kole which from past experience was very peaceful, but he was also young and pretty small. I dont like to gamble on fish purchases, I am the type of person that respects all of my critters and dont want any of them to be stressed for any reason ever if I can help it. Link to comment
Lawnman
I have never had a problem with a yellow tang. They spend the day looking for food and never bothered my other fish. Link to comment
slowngreen
Ok good to know. Pretty much any fish I ask about at the lfs is always compatible LMAO! so I like to see what you guys have to say. Is the semi agressive behavior probably towards other tangs mainly? Link to comment

But I have owned 2 yellow tangs and they were both awesome fish. They are aggressive towards other tangs of the same shape. Link to comment
slowngreen
did you have shrimp too? I have a cleaner, Clod. Link to comment
markalot
Mine gets cleaned by both my cleaner and neon Goby. He's aggressive to my hand! Had my hands in the tank tonight and the SOB started backing into me, razors extended. I was annoyed, but it's a darn neat defense. Link to comment
slowngreen
Ya? That's cool, my kole got cleaned by cleaner too, that's prolly what I'll get then is a juvy yellow. Thanks for the input guys. Link to comment
glennr1978
I understand why we listened to liveaquaria 5 years ago, but not today. Going by their rules, most of us can't keep the majority of our livestock. I'm not saying I know any better than them, because I clearly don't. I just wish that they would update a lot of their information as it's been proven to be false countless times. Sorry about the rant, and just to back up what Lawn said, none of my yt's have ever caused any problems. Model citizens, IMO. Link to comment
slowngreen
Thanks Glenn. I always look at fish on liveaquaria just for the fact they have so much to see with good pictures, thats always helpful. Sucks their info is dated and times in correct, but thats the internet. Id like to get a base point of info to go off of then come here to fine tune it, always works out well. Link to comment
jestep
Should be fine especially since you are adding him last and especially if he's a juvenile. The yellows are probably the most passive tangs unless you put them with other zebrasomas. The purples on the other hand are often downright nasty even when juveniles. Link to comment
slowngreen
I didnt get one, LFS was sold out of them but I got a yellow wrasse. Would these two be fine together being the same color? Link to comment
glennr1978
Absolutely. They will be fine together. Be sure to cover the top of the tank, yellow wrasses (coris, i'm assuming) are notorious jumpers. They are my wrasses of choice for pest eradication but I can't keep them, they all jump within the first couple of weeks in the tank. Link to comment
slowngreen
Ok thanks. I have the top covered. Link to comment
dpoltsdsu
You should be good to go, Yellow Tangs are usually friendly to all other fish except other tangs Link to comment
slowngreen
Back to the yellow tang questions....lol. Would getting an adult be more risky for my small tank mates than a juvy? My LFS only has a "good sized" one according to them on the phone. Link to comment

I think it should be fine, just have them demonstrate that it eats before you purchase, then try and feed it once you get it home, and try feeding it often. Link to comment
slowngreen
Thanks man. I went and looked at it and it was really big, about as big as my hand so I passed on it. Link to comment
