ORA Blood Orange Misbar Clownfish

I've been considering a pair of these once my tanks up and running. They really do get the traits I like most from both fish it seems.

Its a really nice fish. I have been seeing it and you notice the traits from the ocellaris and the traits from the maroon.

This is a very nice variant, for sure. The deep orange/red suits the fish well.

The color its awesome. Its has a really deep orange almost red.

I wonder how big they get? reef-builders thinks they grow large. I kind of want them to stay small :(

Right now this one is between one inch and once inch and a half. Remember we will grow depending on the space that you hace him. Mine its in a Fluval Spec V.

Another thing I have notice its a really peaceful fish. First it was with a Extreme Misbar Clownfish and i move it to my Fluval Spec V and he is with two Green Chromis and a Pijama Cardinal and they live in peace. (I hope the tranquility environment last longs)

This really simply isn't true. Likewise, keeping a human child locked in a small room won't keep him from growing to full size.

What does happen in a small aquarium is that the fish will get larger and larger, water quality will be worse and worse, and eventually the fish will die prematurely before it has a chance to get any larger.

Maroon clownfish can get up to 6" while Occelaris can grow to 4". It's impossible to say how large these crossbreed clownfish can ultimately get, but it's safe to say that a 5 gallon aquarium is way too small for them.

Add on top of that, that there are 3 other fish in the tank that will all creep over 3in in length. Majorly over stocked for such a tiny tank.

Higher nitrates inhibit growth and feeding less can inhibit growth... both which would probably be present in a small aquarium but not tank size alone.... both which I wouldn't consider "healthy". Clownfish often die prematurely even mysteriously and people often bring up "old age" but others with larger systems have had them live 20-25 years. I would say they died prematurely from poor health.

Not ragging on you as we all keep nano's here but theres more to it than tank size.

I really want to pair one of these new blood orange clowns with a black ice, preferably have the black ice already be a large established female to keep the blood orange small and male

Because I had a pair of maroon clowns before and the male actually stayed quite small

Greetings fellow reefers! Here are some pictures of my Blood Orange Misbar Clownfish. https://imageshack.com/i/0jl2s2j'>l2s2.jpghttps://imageshack.com/i/mvwh1wj'>wh1w.jpg Hope you like it :D
Such a beautiful new crossbreed, have any of you guys here heard of the long finned ocellaris from Sustainable Aquatics?

Yes, I love designer clowns but hybrids, no, long finned, certainly not a trait one should breed.

Sustainable aquatics is successfully breeding long finned ocellaris clowns from there super fancy designer breed, why not a hybrid, that's and awesome fish. It has all the good characteristics of a maroon clown but not as big and not as nasty, it's like the best of both worlds c'mon

I know, longfinnage shouldn't be bred.

Hybrids (Like Ligers) often have breeding problems, unless they're more "natural" hybrids from similar species, like percula and ocellaris.

To each his own, I see your point. I think that a long fin would be cool but yes there is always the possibility of problems.

Went to watch Matt Peterson as a speaker a few weekends ago. He was saying to keep the genetics pure because once you cross, you can never breed that back out. It will never be a percula or ocellaris clownfish again. I think it had to do with tainting the gene pool should we ever need a truly pure strain again.

I guess I am just giving you an answer to your "why" from some peoples perspective.

"....you lose the natural form along the way – the fish that are uniquely adapted to a location like the reefs of PNG is lost, and you have a man-made creation in its place which might fail to flourish in the wild for who knows what reason. Or if reintroduced fish did survive, they could inadvertently introduce a latent gold stripe gene and one day all of the Maroon Clownfish in PNG would be gold stripes. It’s a slippery slope when we start ignoring the unique traits that make up variants."
