Reefs2Go Feedback

Reefs2Go gets a lot of smack on this forum. I was home sick on a Friday morning, and maybe I was high on cough syrup, but I went against my better judgement and placed an order for some yumas and zoas. I was filled with deep regret when I hit the submit button, and I contemplated cancelling the order. But what's the worst that can happen? Turns out, nothing much. Everything went...well. Not super awesome, best vendor ever...but not as bad as some of the reviews said. Will I order again? Maybe for another order of yumas but no more zoas. I will stick with WYSIWG from now on. However, if your budget is tight, Reefs2Go is great. Free shipping after $100. Bonus zoa frags at $100. You can't beat that.

Customer Service - 2/5

Confirmation email is long and contains info about shipping, returns, guarantees, etc. If you take the time to read it, it does answer most of your questions. They have a page that shows when an order will be shipped. You will not receive an email saying when the order will be shipped. You have to check that page yourself and plan your schedule accordingly. If you want to change shipping date, you can call them. On the morning of my shipping date, I got an automated notification message. That night, I received a tracking number.

The one thing that annoyed me was the confirmation email kept referencing this Customer Account Login page, but when I try to go there, it asks for username/password. During the checkout process, it never asked me for password. I emailed them twice about it, but no response.

They shipped my order even though the red yuma was on backorder. The red yuma was a big reason why I placed the order in the first place. I wish they told me it was backordered before shipping everything else out. I emailed them about it, and they kept replying with some automated message about shipment date. I guess I have to call them. Will post updates of what happens with this.

Update: backorder shipped but way too much hassle.

Price - 5/5

Their cheap price draw me into placing an order. I been searching for yumas and most places sell them for $30 - $40 a piece. They sell them for $10, and they have them in red / orange / green / light green. They have zoas for $1 to $2 a polyp. I also got a big chunk of GSP for $4. It was their daily special, $1.99 for 1 inch piece. Did I mention free next day priority shipping for spending $100?

Photo Accuracy - 3/5

I didn't have high expectations since the items I bought are not WYSIWYG. I was pleasantly surprised at how the yumas actually resemble the ones in their photos. Orange yuma is actually orange. Most of the zoas are still closed but for the ones that opened, they don't really look as good as the photos. Overall, for non WYSIWYG items, I am satisfied, given the price I paid.

Quality - 2/5

Nothing was melting or dead when I opened the bags. Dipped in Revive and nothing bad came out. Yumas look great but smaller than I expected. I am spoiled by the great rics and yuma I got from Saltcritters.com. Zoas look freshly cut, each piece has 6-8 polyps even though I paid for 5. After 36 hours, most are still closed. After 5 days, two frags melted while another one is still closed. Don't get their zoas!

I am used to frag plugs so I was very disappointed that mostly everything came on chunks of ugly rocks, not so good for my little nano tank. The rocks are also tall, which makes them hard to hide in the sandbed. This is the #1 reason why I won't be purchasing zoas that are not WYSIWYG in the future. For most people, it's probably fine. But I am OCD about aesthetics, and the base rock is as important as the actual coral when it comes to placement in my small tank. If anyone has tips on getting yumas off a rock, let me know.

Shipping - 5/5

Good packaging all around. Heat pack provided since it's freaking cold in Chicago right now. Order shipped out when they said it would and got here early in the morning.

Zoa still closed up on a big chunk of rock that's already wedged deep into the sandbed. This guy melted after 5 days.

Just a quick update. Reefs2Go sent me the backordered yuma via 2 day priority. Yuma arrived safe and sound. I am surprised they spent that money to pack and ship it. I would have been happy with a refund.

I took a point off services because communication with them is a pain. There's way too much uncertainty and lack of immediate responses. They responded to my first email after 3-4 days to let me know my password for login and that my back order item will be shipped out. They didn't tell me my order number and when I finally got to my customer page, there's no order anywhere. Then out of the blue, I get a voicemail that my order will be shipped out Wednesday. I called / emailed them to change delivery date, and it just took too long to finally get a person on the phone. But the representative was very helpful and followed up with me on the delivery date.

Another reefs2go feedback. I put in a big order over over black friday since they had a lot of sales going. I got mostly NPS and gorgs and 1 paly pack they had going for cheap. As well as a few fun hermit crabs, emeralds, feather duster and a single fish.

All of the NPS have opened up except one stubborn sun coral. The other suns and dendro's/gorgs are all looking great. Hopefully I can get this one to open before the 14 day guarantee is over. They sent me an extra head of dendro which is awesome since those can be kind of pricey. They have a big selection of NPS compared to other places and is the main reason I put in an order.

The inverts arrived in good health and active. One of the hermit crabs is wrong and I am going to contact them about it because it was supposed to be a $10 Halloween crab which it is not. The polka dot crab I ordered and some little odd white guys are freaking awesome looking though. Their pics do them no justice. They even sent me an extra emerald crab too. I got some feeder shrimp which all arrived alive and my fish/mantis made short work of them. They seem to have some unique inverts that I haven't seen from other venders

Some of the paly's have opened. Some came on bigger slabs of rock but I just broke or chiseled them off and glued them where I wanted. Others came on frag plugs which I hate so I chiseled them off too. Some were freshly cut and others were not. I will report if any melt. Some were supposed to be 5 polyps but was more like 10-15. They are just cheapie palys but its nice to get extras.

The fish was DOA and I would not try fish from them again. I decided to give it a shot and try a cheap fish but they don't pack the fish well. It was just in a small clear plastic bag (not even double bagged) that corals come in. No black out bag or anything. I have had DOA fish from LA and Bluezoo too but those were at least packed much better.

One of my packages didn't get "combined" in time and they sent it seperatly at no cost to me so that was nice. Everything was packed in a styrofoam box with heat packs but wasn't double bagged.

All in all it has been a positive experience so far. I have 1 mistake and 1 DOA to contact them about and hopefully they credit/refund me without hassle.

Please don't give this scam company your business. I gave them a chance and they treated me terribly and wasted so much of my time. I have never in my life had such a bad experience as with them. Currently using BBB and paypal claims to get my money back for items arriving dead, damaged, not as listed, and missing items from the order. I gave them a chance to send me a makeup order, but the date was pushed back three times without communication to me. They thought a $20 refund was appropriate to a $200 order, so now I have to escalate through paypal.
