Salty_Snack
Nice. That's how it should have been designed in the first place. Link to comment
buddythelion
So basically now it's a cube. The whole point of the edge was so you could fill the top with water and see through it clearly. But either way, nice tank! Link to comment

NancyC
I have a 6 gallon. I like the look of it, but find the design, with only that small opening, sort of a pain to work with. Whenever you have to stick your hand in to do something, if you don't syphon off some water first, you get overflowing water everywhere. Such a chore when you just want to move something or put something. I've found myself wishing I could take the top off. How'd you get it off? I'd be afraid of breaking it. Link to comment

I just used a razor blade and ran it all the way around top . Came off Easy, no problems Link to comment
Jmifland
I tried using a razor blade to remove the top plate of glass but it was taking forever. I ended up laying a towel over the top and hitting it with just enough force to crack the top pieces of glass. Then I peeled each piece off the silicone seam and it only took about 10 minutes to remove all the pieces from the top and then another 5 minutes to run a razor blade over the top and remove the excess silicone. It looks great and having to siphon the water out to move something was getting really annoying. Really like the look of the rimless 12 gallon too! I completely got rid of the stand though because I love how the rimless tank looks just sitting on a simple table. The lights also didn't give me the spread I wanted with the hood on but with a Par38 bulb it will look really nice. Link to comment
Cnebo
You did it! I was waiting for a guinea pig to try this out, wasn't willing to bust my tank.. Let me know how it goes, was really considering this. Link to comment
rob19733
Yep, works good. I have it drilled with an over flow box that I made A 10g sump with a maxi 1200 for return. The back of tank Is painted black , I find that corals just seem to have more colour Pop up against a black background. Still looks like an edge just no top and better Link to comment
camry90
I know this is random, but how much did the cabinet cost? It's very nicely placed. Link to comment

NancyC
I did it! Tried the razor blade thing. Wasn't getting very far very fast so I resorted to the towel and hammer and, voila, I can no reach in my tank!. I'm very proud. I don't DYI. You gave me courage. Thanks. Link to comment
rob19733
You are the brave one , I would take my time with the razor Even if it took all day before using a hammer on any part of a glass tank If razor is sharp , it should only take about 10 min or so to get the top off Link to comment
ltlevil1
I got a brand new pack of blades and fifty new blades for my exacto. The top is coming off. I just hope I didn't wait to long. I lost a couple nice frags because of no room to work. I just posted a WTB thread looking for another tank and said if I couldn't find what I was looking for I was going to take off the top of mine. I've thought all along that open space where the wires go woul be a good place for a small fuge. I'm already building a custom hood that is a little longer and wider for my LEDs and one more slight modification to it that I was already considering and it will flip up right out of the way. I already used watertight boat trailer plugs to make that part quickly detachable so now I know what Im going to do. Link to comment
ltlevil1
I'm topless as well. I Put my DIY hood on and think it looks sweet. I may install the extra supports on the corners so I can install an hob item if needed. Link to comment
mechishark7
Do any of you still have the tops you removed? I bought an edge with a cracked top and figured it would be easier to try and find one that someone cut off than try and cut one out of a pane of glass myself Link to comment
