Hello there!
I guess it's about time that I create my own thread in the members forum after spending so much time just plain creepin' on everyone else. The tank has been running since 2006, surviving 3 moves and various rebuilds. It was completely rebuilt in August 2011 (after nearly 3 years of neglect :( ). Enjoy kiddies!

I knew you really had one...I think you had a photo in the gallery one time? Or maybe you posted it on someone else's thread.

I LOVE this tank. It looks beautiful!!!! I'm so glad you started a diary of your tank. I'll be reading :)

lol thanks!

I think that I recall putting up some pictures at one point or another to help people out, but nothing that was *actually* about my tank.

You were also totally right! You said that I would wind up purchasing a stunner strip sooner rather than later :) I am really liking the added warmth of the magenta LEDs. Here's what the tank looked like earlier in December. You can really see the difference in the warm colours. There is also much less shadowing at the back of the tank.

Now if my coraline algae will only grow back...

Nice comeback, wow 3 yrs of neglect. Were the moves local?

The first couple of moves were local. The one that killed almost everything was the 9 hour UHaul journey back to Toronto after completing my Masters degree in Michigan. I tried really hard to find a buyer to take the tank before I left, but I got nothing but super lowball offers. When I got back into Toronto, the only place that I had to set up the tank at the time was the laundry room, where it was out of sight and mind :(

The ballast crapped out about a year and a half later. I got a new ballast, and then the light fixture broke. I was pretty frustrated so I re-homed what was left of the clean-up crew and let the tank run dark until I renovated my office. Now that the tank is in an area where it is enjoyed constantly.

For those that are curious, here's what the tank looked like before I moved back to Canada :)

I love those macros! Do you know what kind that is?

Yeah, I do kinda miss them since I really love the planted look!

Caluerpa prolifera (smooth blades),

Cauerpa taxifola (the small, feathered ones in upper right corner),

and the same ball of chaeto that I still have now. :)

Thanks!

I have been thinking a lot recently about getting a clam. I have never had one before, but I have more than enough light for one. I will do some research and likely wait until spring to pick one out :)

  • 2 weeks later...

So I finally did it! I got my first...CLAM! I went to my favourite LFS last night after work and picked up some new denizens for my cube. I have never, in all my years of reefkeeping, had a clam so I feel all tingly and nervous. I really hope everything goes well. Anyhow, here's a picture!

I think it's a crocea but I am not sure. If anyone knows definitively what type of clam it is, please let me know!

I will post a new FTS and more about the other new inhabitants soon :)

Yay! Clamz0rz!

You have done an update!!!! Beautiful new clam  I'm clueless on clams, so no idea what kind it is.

Don't wait too long to post a FTS and what the other new stuff is :)

That meteor shower is really taking off for you too...it's gorgeous!!!!!

I won't wait too long :) I am pretty excited about my new tank denizens so I will probably update tomorrow after a waterchange/glass cleaning.

I'm not sure what it is, but all of my sps is growing like crazy! My cyphastrea has more than doubled in size since I got it in October. Too bad I can't say the same for the mushrooms and gsp :(

looks great!

Thanks!

Hah! There's a picture of him/her in the new FTS I posted the other day!

(S)He's a little skittish so getting a good picture while he's swimming and fin-flicking is difficult to say the least. Also, I think my phonecam adds some extra spaz.

Anyhow, here's the best pics I have thusfar!
